I just sold my riding mower due to my yard not being large enough for it. So now I am in the market for a self propelled mower. I have been looking at the Hondas and the Husqvarnas. Anyone have some insight to a good mower?

I have the semi commercial Honda and love it. It has the larger engine whereas the full commercial one is only 160cc, I think.

I love it. It runs like a top and has never choked down, even while mulching. The bagging is great and the catcher is huge. It does cost more than the other self-propelled mowers, but with a Honda Motor and polycarbonate deck, my grandkids will enjoy it too.

Mine isn't self propelled but, it's a Troy bilt with the Honda 160cc engine. Starts up on the "guaranteed" first pull and cuts like a champ.

So the Hondas are worth the extra money for the polycarbonate deck

Honda, Honda, Honda.
Anything else will need to be replaced within 2 years. I've had mine for 6 years now only changed the oil and filter once. I haven't started it since last summer and I guarantee I can go put gas in it and it will crank on the first half assed pull of the cord.

ETA: the poly deck is easy as shite to clean and doesn't rust

Toro. Have had 2(first one stolen). I don't take care of shite, and these things just keep on mowing. Oh, and front wheel drive. So much easier to maneuver.

Funny you should post this. I'm in the market for one as well. I want one with rear wheel drive and preferably larger (taller) rear wheels. I have a slope that needs to be cut and I'm tired of weed eating it.

I bought a honda SP mower last year... I cut a little over 1/2 an acre with it and it has been a good motor.

My neighbor bought a Husqvarna AWD around the same time and he has been pleased with his as well. He cuts about the same size yard as I do.

I've been extremely impressed with my SP Toro. This will be the third season for it. I used it on Sunday for the first time in five months or so just to cut the clovers before waxing their asses with 24d. She purred the first time I pulled the cord. I only wish Mrs4lsu2 would turn on with such ease.

I have the large rear wheels. Will never have anything other. No way I'd have rear wheel drive though.

I got my Toro recycler about 12 years ago, and it still starts first pull. I got it at a Toro dealer (Personal Pace w/ gray wheels), which I recommend. I had heard that some of the ones offered at the box stores were lower quality, but I have never had one, so who knows.

The best setup is front wheel self propelled with the large back wheels. You'll rarely have to let go of the self-propel lever - just tilt up the front wheels and turn at the end of a row.

This is a similar setup to mine:

Honda, Honda, Honda. Anything else will need to be replaced within 2 years.

I've had my Briggs & Stratton powered Craftsman since 1998 when I bought my first house. I've NEVER even changed the oil on it, and maybe changed the filter twice. What's that, almost 17 years?
Made in Wisconsin, USA

Briggs & Stratton produces some of the world's most reliable lawn mower engines and small engines. For over 100 years, we have manufactured engines that are durable, reliable and just easy to use and maintain. Every year, 3,000 employees build over 10 million small engines right here in America.

I had a front wheel drive and sent it to the camp because it was just a pain trying to cut the slope behind my house. I agree that front wheel drive is great on flat areas like trimming around the house but that hillside ate me up. So much so that I gave up on the push mower and just weed eat it currently.

What ever you buy, make sure the dive is rear wheel and not front wheel... I went from a rear wheel to front wheel drive, with a new Honda mower my wife bought me for father's day, the mower is great but front wheel drive sucks... Especially with a bag that's almost full...

I got my super recycler from a Toro dealer, and it sucks. Can't even cut remotely wet grass (dew in the morning). Used it for a while cutting commercially with the same problems. I regret buying it

All maintenance is always up to date, so that's not the problem. The engine is just a pussy
