English arena-rock stars Muse announced the upcoming release of their new album Drones on June 9th – their first full-length since 2012’s The 2nd Law. Though frontman Matt Bellamy hinted that a new and "heavy" record was in the works in an impromptu Twitter Q+A last July, little was known about the new album until Wednesday's announcement.

Can't wait.

Saw them live years ago...the show was amazing and ruined me for any other live act.

It's not exactly true that little was known until today's (yesterday's) announcement. They've been releasing some pretty fun snippets on instagram for a bit now.

muse instagram linky here.

Always high quality, albums from Muse. But not necessarily unique anymore, however.....

Origin of Symmetry is pretty fantastic. Underrated in Best of talk.

New tune just dropped a few hours ago:

Psycho

This is the best rock band in the world now. Almost literally the only group actually carrying the torch for the almost-dead genre.

It wasn't my favorite, but I wouldn't say it sucked. Muse seems to experiment with different styles on every album, which is so far removed from most artists these days who basically copy and paste from one album to another.

The music is great. The riff is spectacular. The lyrics are so awful

Pretty excited for this new album.

One Wednesday, when the album track listing was revealed (along with the news that Psycho would be available with the album pre-order), they also released a few dates for a UK 'tour' in March...small venues, I think, in a few 'local for Muse' cities over the next few weeks.

They're scheduled over Europe for various festivals through the summer.

I'm guessing that tour dates outside of the mini-UK tour and summer festivals will be set over the next few months and into the summer. They tend to hit the U.S. in the fall. Just look at muse.mu for updates on upcoming shows.

I'm hoping they come over to my neck of the woods again. Seriously one of the best/most fun live concerts I've ever been a part of.

Edited to add:

said every Muse fan ever. I'm always amazed at how amazing the music is in contrast to lyrics.

Where's that?

I'm living in Portland OR now, so I'm really hoping they come here. Most bands usually do.

I'm in the Pennsylvania/Maryland/Delaware corner. They tend to hit DC and NYC, sometimes Philly or Baltimore. It's just that the New York or DC concerts are not as easy for me to get to depending on work and whatnot.

Still, it's been five years since I've seen them. I'll make the effort to get to one of their east coast city venues when they get to the U.S. later this year.

I think that's because they are lacking in irony. People these days are simply not used to earnestness.

Muse played in Belfast today (yesterday? time zones) to kick off the new album, and played another new song, Reapers.

As an FYI, Robert "Mutt" Lange, most known for producing AC/DC's Back in Black, produced Muse's new album. And Reapers is quite heavily reminiscent of AC/DC (and "classic" rock in general).

"Reapers" live in Belfast

Thanks. Never seen them live but the live shows I have watched on video/tv look pretty amazing, I would definetely make an effort to go see them live if they tour the states.
