Sending the pick out actually gives the team more ability to make plans regarding using their picks going forward. Personally, I'd rather ship the pick and leave the future maximally flexible.

Looking at past drafts can give some context for value of a pick, but, remember, that it takes time to develop picks, and some of those good selections are a function of other GM's screwing up.

The truth is that I value most draft picks far less than most, and I am sure this colors my analysis. I also feel the time to start using picks is next offseason, as that is when Davis' deal and the new cap kicks in. Things will be very uncertain in other player markets, and the draft may provide relative certainty.

One thing I didn't realize until I looked it up for this thread is the protection goes to 25-30 after 2 years That will be harder to keep, being a top 5 regular season team basically means 3 seed or better in the West as soon as 2 years from now. I also think that we'll be in a better position team culture wise to turn our late picks into useful players. We had this debate a bit when Pondexter came back, and no way he's as useful of a player if he stayed with New Orleans the whole time. His talent is limited and his intangibles wouldn't be so developed on a rebuilding team.

I do think a 1st and uncertainty is better than certainty and no 1st, but since it looks harder to keep long term than I first thought, I won't be too upset if we don't keep the pick.

Keeping the pick (which may mean trading it) is not bad. I won't that upset in that case.

It might also lead to the hilarious scenario of trading the kept pick to Houston for the future of ours (likely of lower value) and an asset. Honestly, this may be the best scenario all around.

40-28- - - - Bulls

37-29- - - - Pelicans

If the Bulls lose and we win tonight these will be the record for both teams.

3.5?

How many games behind will we be behind Bulls now

I think that's 2 behind. 1 for the loss and then 2 half games for the 2 fewer games we've played?

Yeah 2 games behind assuming we win tonight. Okc was really clutch down the stretch in this game. Although they win a game they should have won. The Bulls didn't have Butler, Rose, or Gibson and they've been on a long road trip.
