Law schools are in a death spiral. Maybe now they’ll finally change.

I already have a good paying job thanks to my undergrad, but I was applying to law schools anyways (since I actually really would like a legal education). I sent my application in to Loyola and was accepted in 2 days. They must be really desperate. They threw a ton of money my way last year, but I decided to work instead (current job pays too well to pass up at this point), but I'm hoping that declining enrollment might help me to get a near free ride at one of Louisiana's law schools. If it's not free or damn near close, there's no way I'd give up my current job at this time. However, I know that the job market in my current field is in a boom right now, so it might be a good idea to stay in it for a couple more years and then jump into law school when the bottom starts to fall out.
Short version, I'm riding the boom in my current field and hoping that its bust coincides with law schools getting increasingly desperate.

Law schools are run by the faculty for the faculty. A former colleague once put it like this: “If we could run this law school without students, this place would be perfect.”
OTOH, I wouldn't want to deal with law students either...

as funny as that is, do you think that sentiment is the problem?
I have a degree in chemistry from lsu. whoopie.I took forever to graduate and had a crappy (less than 3.8) gpa.
but whenever I had a question about anything, 90% of the time the professor stopped what he/she doing to help. the other 10%, said come back in a half hour.

Well, that's the whole thing. They are a cash cow for profs and there is really no incentive to have less law schools as long as that loan money is rushing in.
I'll say the same thing I always say in these threads. Unless you really have a passion for something like criminal or PI, I wouldn't get into the profession for money unless you can get into intellectual property. Most of my close friends from law school aren't practicing anymore. I have what I consider a solid gig compared to a lot of attorneys and even it is soul-crushing a lot of the time. Totally not worth it unless you can get in for cheap.

Been predicting this for years.
When I got out in the 90s, there was a glut of lawyers. In the 2000s the glut doubled in size. Now it's just ridiculous.
Anyone who wants to go to law school needs their head examined. It's just too competitive, too stressful, and not a good means of being happy and making a living. Soul crushing is a good descriptor.
Close 'em all.

Loyola will be the first to fall in LA. LSU is the best value, if you consider Bar results and cost. Tulane survives off of many out of state students for whom cost is not that big a factor, and they treat their students better than LSU ever has. Southern is a sacred cow. So Loyola is the odd man out: expensive and 3rd tier.

2008 was a watershed year for the industry. Especially BigLaw. Companies decided to use their own in-house counsel and thus axed a ton of contracts and you could no longer just keep billing for stuff that didn't really occur. The collapse of Dewey Lebouf was huge.
