My rookie year, we were playing the Chicago Bulls, and this is Michael Jordan's third or fourth year in. We're playing an exhibition game in some obscure place. Most veterans do not like to play in exhibition games. They want to get to the real thing. I'm a wide-eyed, energetic rookie, and we're playing this exhibition game, and Michael is going through the motions. Chuck Person, who's on my team and is a trash talker, as well, was like, "Can you believe Michael Jordan? The guy everyone's talking about? Who's supposed to be able to walk on water? You're out here killing him, Reg." This is in the first half. He's like, "You should be talking to him."
I was like, "You know what? You're right. Michael, who do you think you are? The great Michael Jordan? That's right, there's a new kid in town."
He kind of looks at me and starts shaking his head. So, at half, I have 10 (points), and he has four points, right? I'm doing all this talking, he's like, "Okay."
End of the game, in the second half, he ended up with 44, and I end up with 12.
So, he outscored me 40 to two. And as he's walking off he's like, "Be sure, and be careful that you never talk to Black Jesus like that. Okay?"
Okay. I'm so sorry, Black Jesus. I'm so sorry.
(Did you ever do it again?)
Never to Michael Jordan.

So epic. If this was lebron he would be shunned

Yes, but MJ isn't nearly as athletic as LeBron or today's athletes. ;)

Jordan was such a dick but had the game to back it up.
It would have been interesting to see him play in the age of social media.

MJ in his prime couldn't keep up with college teams of today.

Kobe wanted so bad to be Jordan. I mean he emulated him pretty damn good. even had the skill, work ethic, competitive drive to back it up, but that killer instinct Jordan had is what separates him from the pack.

Nah, he wouldn't make the cut at LSU in his prime.
Haven't you heard? Basketball is so much more advanced now.

It takes ice water to grind off on a guy for 40 in a half because he opened his mouth on you. assassin status

Stop rolling your eyes, Tbird. You don't roll your eyes at white Jesus.

I agree. 1990s NBA was full of a short white guys shooting set shots. Very few athletic guys and even fewer dunks.

Love reading stories about Jordan and Bird trash talking people, both were simply awesome at delivering and backing up their talk.

Not disagreeing with your assessment of Jordan but Kobe has went off on dudes before for talking trash and poking the bear.
He embarrassed the frick out of Ron Artest a few years back for doing the same thing. This was back when Artest was still considered the premier wing defender in basketball.
I do love how Artest was still talking shite with 40 seconds to play after Kobe practically made him bite the pillow

I love seeing this kind of shite out of legends, whether it be Jordan, Kobe or anyone else. Bonafide alpha move

He would be crucified.
Gambling directly after games, punching teammates in practice, taking free throws in games with his eyes closed....the media would be eating him alive.
But because he set the bar during his reign, he isn't held to the same standards.
LBJ does any of these things, people would want his head on a post.
LBJ's biggest flaw? Being born after Michael Jordan.

Good thing MJ isn't playing today. He would put up 50 a night with how often fouls are called.
