From last night's Monty Williams radio show Sean Kelley asks about the teams recent improvement and how there now seems to be a belief that they can win.
quote:

Monty: I think they've always felt that way but didn't know how. When you look at the make up of our team, nobody on our team of the core guys outside of Ryan has had a winning record. So those guys, Tyreke, AD, Eric they don't know what it's like to be on a winning NBA team and understand that process of being a team that's in the hunt, at times being hunted, critiqued, ridiculed, all those things were something that they had to get used to I think, and Jrue made the playoffs with a losing record I think. That's a different...Jrue's never had a winning record. So our goal was to get this team to have a winning record this year, and we're trying to do that as we speak and the goal that's out in front of us is to make the playoffs, but you can't just do that. there's a process that has to be undertaken, so bringing in guys like Quincy and Norris that's all those guys know and they're bringing a different mentality and style to the team that's every possession, every film session, every practice, you've gotta be the best you can be.

Sean Kelly: What do they say? I know some of it's by example, but surely there have to be words involved.

Monty: A lot of it I don't even know about. I'm sure the conversations in the locker room, the way they go about their business. What I do see from those guys in the huddles are they're talking about defense and possessions, and take the good with the bad, those type of things we haven't heard from anybody other than the coaches, and our guys are like "Ok, this is that stuff that we've heard about" and it's been a breath of fresh air, enlightening for all of us to have guys like that. Omer has been around it, but he's quiet. Omer's a quiet dude. Ryan's been around it but Ryan's pretty quiet when it comes to talking about team stuff like that, so to have 2 guys that are vocal about that kind of leadership has been good for us.

He also talks a bit about the playoff race, Tyreke, and Elliott Williams.

Sean: Is Tyreke playing the best basketball of his career right now?

Monty: Well, the easy answer would be to say yes and because of me *insert ARod tabloid joke laugh*

Good thing I had a light lunch.

To be fair he went on to give all the credit to Tyreke, his jokes are just as bad as his suits.

If you did all the work on a project at your job and your boss made a half assed joke about him doing most of the work before giving you credit, I doubt you'd think it much of a joke. Only he knows, but it was a pretty cringe worthy answer regardless of intention.

ETA: To whoever is downvoting the Monty hate on this board, ask yourself if ANY of the elite coaches in this league would even bat an eye at making that comment. The answer is no.

I agree he shouldn't have made the joke, I was just pointing out the comments on Tyreke didn't stop there for those that didn't get to listen.

Disliking Monty hardly gets me riled up anymore. I thank you for your concern over my well-being though. It means a lot to me to take time out of your day to approve time off.

That's an entirely different story to be fair.

I just think Monty is taking a bad route by saying stuff like the coaches have been telling the guys this stuff but Cole and QPon bring it from a player perspective. If I wanted job security and the respect of the locker room as an unproven coach I would lump myself in with the team more and talk about how everyone is finally growing together.

I actually feel like Monty is growing a little bit, and the success has helped him. He's just a very tactless person who could probably do himself a favor with a little humility.

Discussion has now turned into a groupthink-flame-Shamelesspel-fest. You have no evidence that I'm worked up (I'm not) other than someone who follows me around and says stuff like that to me all the time.

Honestly, if we're being honest, you sound more worked up than I did in any of my comments in this thread.
