Harrison Ford glided his airplane into a crash landing on a California golf course on Thursday afternoon.
Moments before the crash, in audio of his conversation with air traffic control, an unemotional Ford can be heard asking for an emergency landing because his engine had failed over Venice.

The whole "hero" thing is of course overblown, he simply steered for the only viable place to crash land, after all crashing into a house is far more likely to be deadly than trying to skip it on a fairway.

trivia

Seeing the Ryan PT-22 listed immediately reminded me that the Ryan Aircraft Co. was who built the actual Spirit of St Louis (the plane Lindbergh first crossed the Atlantic in).
