Looking for some places in and around Birmingham. I've never been. I'll only be there a few days and won't have much time, so I'd prefer some casual spots, maybe just a sandwich and cold beer, nothing too fancy

TIA

Heart of Bham? As in Southside? Where do you mean?

Rojo makes some good quesadillas and is in the Highland Park area

Go to Avondale brewery and get food from Saws which is next door or the pizza place. Highly unlikely you'll be dissapointed.

Go to any of the Saws.

Check out Slice or Post Office Pies.

Bottle and Bone is a great new place.

Most of the places have been listed. J Clyde has the best beer selection. The Saws Soul Kitchen/Avondale/Post Office Pies is a good combination. If you go to Saws get the pork and greens. Big Bad Breakfast is a solid choice for breakfast.

I prefer the Saws in Homewood, but not by much. Get the Sampler. Best BBQ in Birmingham.

World of Beers is on 20th, not terribly far from Convention Center. If you like that type of place.

The area called "Uptown" has some pretty cool places. It's very close to the Center. Rogue Tavern is pretty close to you and has good bar food.

There's a tiny hot dog joint called Gus's not too far away. Get the Special loaded if you like kraut on hot dogs.

Good call.

And while you're there (Summit), swing by Chuey's for an overpriced Margarita and an amazing view (well, amazing for Alabama).
