i have always purchased online and i do my taxes at H&R Block. I have never had anyone ask me about online purchases and filing on my taxes. A guy i work with said his daughters cpa made her file $500 shopping she did online on hers this year. I live in mississippi. What are the laws on that?

Use tax.

Any purchase you make online is subject to the local sales tax.

Legally you are required to identify all purchases that you did not pay sales tax on and then pay the related sales tax then.

Practically, I wouldn't worry about it, unless you have a significant amount of online purchases ($1000s)
