What's the price range to have my water pump and timing belt changed in BR. It's an 02 Tacoma.

On a toyota they'll try to sell you on needing your tensioner replaced as well...if that's the case then $1000...if not then $800 or so

It's not that hard FWIW. You can get a kit with everything you need, and with moderate mechanical ability, can have it done in 6 hours

Not that hard? Don't you basically need to remove the front of the engine?

yes. And OP did not state if it was a 4 cylinder or 6. Thank goodness my 07 has the 4.0 with a chain

Bet you wish your daddy would have showed you how to do basic mechanical work?? There are videos on you tube and books that can walk you through it. Be a man do it yourself. Remember rightie tightie lefty loosey. Save your 1000 bucks and do it for 150 to 200.

Paid about $1000 for this and an oil change at the dealership. 07 sequoia (same engine as yours).

Correct, not that hard. You basically take a bunch of ancillary shite off and put it back on when you're done. No real disassembly of individual parts. Hardest part is getting the belt on correctly.

I had that body style Tacoma, and could probably have everything apart in 30 minutes if I pushed it. They are retarded easy to work on.

You can get a whole kit for like $150 IIRC

Which leaves OP enduring the humiliation of calling a mechanic to put his car back together for him. Pay the expert up front. Some things are worth the money.

On an older vehicle like that I agree, do it yourself...watch youtube videos, and take good mental notes when you're pulling stuff off.

I've heard that timing belts can be a bitch to change. Might not be too difficult, but you have to take apart a lot of stuff and may need some extra tools. I will usually take on small and easy repairs myself, but I don't know if I'd want to spend the time changing the timing belt.

Go ahead and change the drive belts too. There's no extra labor because they have to come off anyway.
