"So Much for the star ratings"

You are correct, most NFL players are not 5 star coming out of high school. Let's do the math

30 X 10 = 300 that would be 30 5 star players per year times 10 years for a total of 300 5 star players in a 10 year period.

53 X 32 = 1,749 53 players on 32 teams

1,749 - 300 = 1,449 1,749 nfl players on roster during a ten year period less 300 5 star players recruited out of high school during that 10 year period

1,449 PLAYERS that are not 5 star so the average favors the 3 and 4 star players.

factor in, injury, human factors, just things happening meaning 30 percent of the 5 star players just do not pan out.

The star rating system is simply a method to measure the upside of a athlete. Some kids just do not develop early, some athletes are not showcased by their high school coach or maybe the high school program does not showcase their talent. They may be a defensive back playing in a division where most teams run the ball. They may have a cannon arm and play for a high school coach who likes to run the ball

To be honest I believe the rating system favors large population areas meaning players closer to larger cities get more attention if they are good. The star rating system has many human factors and is not the most reliable way to judge athletes.

With all that said look at the BCS champions and where they rank in the year after year rankings and you will see the star system favors the highest ranking teams year after year.

KM, I did not mean to be critical of your thread, only trying to agree with your post. Most NFL players do not come out of high school rated 5 star. The notice starts in the 10th and 11th grades and the stars are aligned way before they take a snap their senior year. Kids mature at different ages and there are so many factors that go into rating these kids.

My point was only to say that the star rating system does favor the college teams that finish in the top ten year after year.

I am so glad LSU finishes in the top ten average every year. in the last 12 years LSU has 2 BCS titles a 3rd appearance in the title game.
Average of 10 wins a season
Turning out NFL players

WOW its great to be a LSU fan

You started a thread solely based off of the premise that the star system is flawed because one "projected" 1st rounder was given a 3 star rating coming out of highschool despite the fact that a much greater percentage of 5 star athletes are drafted every year than any other rating, only to follow up with a "Yo Mamma" cut down when someone points out your complete and total idiocy? Be they ever so humble, recruiting rankings still do the job

How Recruiting Rankings Hold Up at the top of the NFL draft

quote:

The bottom of that graph really doesn't do justice to the huge gulf between the ratio of four-star prospects who go in the first round (roughly 1 in 22, on average) and the ratio of two-star/walk-on players who go in the first round (roughly 1 in 300) but you get the idea: The four and five-star players, a group that makes up a little under 13 percent of the entire population of college players, accounts for just shy of 60 percent of first-rounders.

The verdict is in: stars matter.

i liked this thread better when the OP wasn't an imature troll

And ESPN rankings?!?! Even Lugenbill doesn't take those things seriously. What's next, are you going to link a Bleacher Report article about star rankings?

Taking a position that "stars don't matter" is absurd. The evidence to the contrary is clear.
