LSU students from Texas, when did the big push start?

When did LSU become 1/4 people from Texas? In '97 the top 10% rule passed so was it around then or even before so?

I went to LSU in the early 2000's and there were a ton of students from Texas then.

2001-02 I had probably 4 or 5 close friends at LSU from the Houston metro

LSU has always had a strong TX, MS, AL contingent in the student body.

When UT and aTm's admission standards got higher.

A lot of my close friends were from Houston area when I went to LSU (2008-2012). Believe it had to do with the top 10% rule and the fact that LSU was offering generous out-of-state scholarships to Texas high school students. I am not sure if they will be able to keep this up with all of the budget cuts lately

You'd have to be pretty dumb to go to LSU with the education schools like UT, aTm, Rice, etc offer.

A lot likely has to do with their LSU Alumni parents moving to Houston for work

In fairness, you don't just stroll up to the dorms at Rice and UT and ask them to show you your room.
aTm is more "attainable" but like a poster upthread noted, LSU has always been pretty generous with their out of state scholarships for those that qualify.

The ones going to LSU didn't have those offers

quote:I dont think Lsu has a strong contingent from Ms or Al. We currently have 81% in state, which is unbelievably high to start. Then I believe TX makes up for around 13% of the out of state by itself

The only school I wanted to go to in Texas was UT, and I couldn't get in because of the top 10% rule. LSU was the next best thing really

The other 6% smell like curry or smog.
