This story today made me think about it:

Students find teacher hanging in classroom

This quote:
quote:

The death is believed to be a suicide, but no note was found at the scene, police said.

Made me think about the whole idea of suicide notes because there's nothing magical in them that says the person bent on killing themselves would tell the truth or that somehow this would explain the suicide.

I mean if you're selfish enough to take your own life, I imagine you're also selfish enough to lie or drag other people's names through the mud just to take them down with you.

So whats the point of even looking for them or reading them?

I doubt they are going to lie as to why they took their own life...maybe their perception is wrong but it can still give answers

I believe most people who feel compelled to kill themselves want those they leave behind to know what lead them to do it and spell out their reasons in a note.

Well, it's your last word, really. If I were to commit suicide, I would probably write something.

GF's bosses sister offed herself in a bathroom tub in a seedy part of Houston a few months back. Everyone was looking for answers to "why why why", yet it took the cops to locate the suicide note on her iPad which was on the dresser.....and it was the typical depression, drugs, alcohol kind of letter and why she was doing what she was about to do.

Sad state of affairs to have a find a family member like that

Not this shite again. It always comes up in these threads. Suicidal people are not rational. Selfishness doesn't enter in to it.

It could help verify that there was no foul play involved.

Didn't take long for the "suicide is justifiable, and sometimes even awesome" lobby to show up.

Don't you think it's pretty logical that if you find a dead body, you'd try to find out as much information as humanly possible about what caused it?

im not saying there isnt in "some" cases. Like when someone is caught doing something and dont want jail time or embarrasment, there are those situations.

But most suicide is from depression, and mental illness. A very real sickness that alot of people have no clue about and pop off at the mouth screaming selfish everytime something about suicide is posted.

Didn't take long for the "I'm unaware of neurophysiology" lobby, either.
