Unfortunately it was an off screen issue as much as an on screen one.

I'd have to throw in the Red Viper. The potential missed with that character was huge.

Yes.

No. Jimmy Darmody's character and story arc had reached an end. There was nothing more for this character and keeping him around would have been disingenuous to the show. He had died on the battlefields of WW1. Jimmy was dead inside and just wanted to be put out of his misery. He knew he was going to die at that meeting yet went willingly to his death. Like Chalky he went out on his own terms, like a boss.

His death also served to move Nucky's character along. The underworld was changing and there was no longer room for the crooked politician type, the ones that blurred the lines between good/bad guys, there was no such thing as a half a gangster. It was the theme of the entire season, that Nucky would have to go all in. Now, you can argue the problem was the writers in subsequent years didn't follow through on this and kept Nucky waffling on whether he should be a good guy or a bad guy. In the final season they did a good job of fleshing out Nuck's character by using the flashbacks, you really got an idea of why this guy ticked the way he did. Again, problem is they wasted years giving us Nucky the enigma.

Thinking something behind the scenes with him since unlike basically ever other meaningful character, he was never seen again in a flash back/forward/ whatever after his character was killed.

He hated living in Hawaii. I also think his mother was sick. His character was originally planed to take the arc that was given to someone else. I think the popular opinion is Locke but idk. Could of just as easily been Sayid or any other dude.

Yeah I don't see why Ben would have anything to do with Ecko.

Henry/Ben was only suppose to have a 6 episode arc but him staying had nothing to do with Eko and everything to do with how great he was on screen.

Gotcha. Didn't realize Ben was originally designed as a bit part. He might have been the best character of the entire series.

Obviously JJ liked him so much he created another show around him when Lost ended.

Good lord, the show would have suffered greatly without Ben

Supposedly a lot of things Eko was going to do for the plot, Ben did instead. It does make sense, because the Black Smoke does seem to take great interest in Eko from the start.

Doakes from Dexter. Don't get me wrong. Season 2 was great and what happened with him was really well done. But he was a great character.

Especially the one that lost his head at the end of Season 1.

Maybe but I would bet Emerson would have had a large role no matter what. When he was on screen he was just to damn entertaining.

I agree, but I think that Eko's initial role was....

MAJOR SPOILERS

The person who was supposed to kill Jacob. Granted I think Ben is the better choice, but I can see that they were setting that up for a while.
