Is it just me or does it seem that shows are ending their seasons earlier this year?

The Mentalist had it's finale last week, Parks & recs is done, and tonight is the finale of How to Get Away with Murder.
Those 3 shows are all on different networks(CBS,NBC,ABC) are on done before February is over. Is this normal, and I've just never realized?

Could be completely wrong but I believe it has to do with all these shows do midseason breaks and stuff. They are making it to where you do have to wait forever for your show to come back. Instead giving you a couple 2-4 month breaks and that's thrown the timing that you are use to off.

I have no data for this but I was thinking about it a couple days ago and this is what I came up with.

Like game of thrones just plays pretty much 10 straight weeks give or take. So it's done then a whole year you wait. The blacklist (I think) gives you a mid season so it comes back sooner then starts the new season sooner

It's about time for them to start airing their half-season series that usually won't last.

Part of the reason I don't usually get into new network shows

Oh we have a new episode for the next two weeks! Then were going on a hiatus for a month of wait were back but now on Tuesday at a new time...wait for the mid mid season cliff hanger!!!

Just no consistency

I actually kind of like the way the do things now compared to the old days. The half season breaks usually revolve around Christmas season or other times when people are distracted and doing other things. Shows having summer runs are kind of great too.

Used to be a show would kick off in the fall and end in the spring then nothing but reruns all summer long. Now with HBO running series for ten weeks at a time, cable shows running seasons and half-seasons throughout the year, and now networks doing half-seasons and summer seasons there seems to always be something on TV. They've got us watching year round now instead of just winter. Probably something to do with the population migrating from the cold weather states to the warm weather states.
