Seems that If one bank chain would have a few branches open to 8 or 9 they would have tons of business.

Every other business has extended hours for busy people who work during the day

Back in the day, banks would have to close fairly early to balance their books. It took a long time-big banks would work all night and finish shortly before they opened the next morning. Computer processing sped that up, but they still had to close early enough for the couriers make their connection-all those canceled checks from other banks had to be shipped through the Federal Reserve system back to the banks they were drawn on.

Electronic imaging and real time processing have lessened the need for that, but it's still a tradition. More than you probably wanted to know on the subject

6 PM ain't gonna cut it.

20 years ago pharmacies closed at 6, now you got lots of em that are 24 hours.

Times change, banks need to get with the program

That's why they call it," bankers hours" and why ATM's and online banking were invented.

That's what ATMs are for. Is it still 1995 or something?

They used to close at lunch, then reopen at like 3 or so for only another hour/ hour and a half just for convenience. All the days deposits were done by noon.

The phrase, "banker's hours", reflected this.

Mass banking is all headed to expanded ATMs anyhow.

I use ATM to take money out but I feel uncomfortable depositing money. I feel like something will go wrong. Guess I'm paranoid but I like handing my deposits to a person who is punching the numbers into the computer

Sounds like Lyle's issue not the bank and their hours.

I guess I feel this way because at my job I have to work 9-9 so I have a hard time getting to the bank during their hours

ATM or through your phone.

I'm in banking, and trust me, the industry is going in a moble and technology direction. Banks are going to close earlier, not later. Everything will be done electronically

In 1999, Woodforest took "banking convenience" a step further and opened the first of four "around the clock" branches open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in select markets.

Yep, there are a lot of these around here. I knew I saw a teller in there at like 3am. (Walmarks)

So, you trust other people than yourself? The teller is operating a computer to make the deposit. Why can't you? The atm is more accurate than tellers
