I just got an invite to go on a tuna trip out of Venice and have no idea what to expect. I used to work offshore and did lots of fishing out there but have only been out in a large cheater boat with 50 people last year. I'm wondering what to expect on a 32 ft boat?

The most important question is preparing for not getting sea sick, what to take on when to take it?

Dramamine will work, but it will make you tired and you will have to fight through it, just make sure you take it before you get on the boat or it will be too late. I really almost thing the sea sick thing is a mind thing, if you think you're going to get sick you will, if you tell yourself you're not you won't.

I've never used it, but my brother swears by the scopolamine patches. He puts it behind his ear the night before the trip.

if you worked offshore, then you probably aren't really prone to motion sickness...msin thing is, don't let yourself worry about getting sick, as I think motion sickness is about 50% in your head...

lots of guys make the mistake of drinking a lot the night before the trip and going out with a half of a hangover and spending the day sick...that is not motion sickness, that is just being a drunk...

if you want to be on the safe side, just get some non-drowsy dramamine and take it before you get on the boat...it will make you sleepy anyway, but it is pretty damn effective...

Do it make you tired? I've also never gotten sick offshore and on the last trip I went on there were green people everywhere. I even ate a good greasy MCDonalds biscuit before I went out and didn't take anything, but that was a big arse boat.

Of course. I'm sure I'll release everything I catch

Not really, KR's fat arse would disown me if I did.

You better keep your fridge stocked, he has to have his snacks.

But seriously, forget dramamine unless you plan on going out on really choppy water.

This. Get a lot of rest before going out. Also, start taking Dramamine a day or two before hand.

It's a very good time of the year to catch big yellowfin. If you need caught one before, listen to someone on board how to fight it or they will kick your arse.

Once you leave the dock it's too late to realize you made a mistake. Err on the side of safety.

Take non-drowsy dramamine the night before and one before you go. Put one in your pocket in case you need another during the day. I'm convinced sea sickness is a mind thing, If you're thinking about it now just take the dramamine. Everyone I fish with has a ritual to not get sea sick. Some guys take meds, some eat sushi ginger, and others drink beer. I don't care how salty you are everyone will eventually get a little queazy offshore if you go enough.

Last year we had a 40 ft boat with 6 guys who can handle themselves well, we hit some 8-12's and 4 of them got sick, it was like dominos...I drove the boat and drank beer.... I'm not a big beer drinker on land but when I leave the jetties I crack one and it always works....

If you're worried about getting sick take bonine. Over the counter motion sickness medicine.

Sea sickness has nothing to do with the mind and everything to do with the inner ear

Scop works
Also if feeling bad keep eye on horizon at all times
Never go into the cabin if feeling bad
Don't look down for more than a second or two
Keep fresh air at the face
And if u throw up do it over the gunnles don't make the deckhand clean it up

Take bonine instead of dramamine

bring rain gear even if the forecast isn't calling for rain

don't under dress if you are going soon

don't wear any clothes you like

don't run out of cold beer

bring a couple pre made sandwhiches or subs

I'm assuming the boat will have all the necessary fishing gear
