I'm thinking about trading in a fairly new iPhone 5s through their mail-in program. Just wondering if anyone has had a bad experience doing this? TIA.

I guess it's more of a buy-back program. According to their website, they appraise the value up front, then you mail off the device for them to verify. Once they verify, you get your money in the form of a gift card.

I'm just concerned about them giving an appraised value up front, and then being nit-picky and actually giving smaller value later.

They gave me the full amount of appraisal, the only catch is it is on a gift card that can only be used to pay your bill or buy accessories at their online store.

1. It is only for a Verizon gift card. So you can pay your bill or buy stuff at verizon with it.

2. I'd do it at a store. This way the rep appraises it and you get the value/gift card on the spot. The envelope they mail you if you do it online isn't very padded, and I've heard of people's phones cracking while in transit. I've mailed phones in before but I wrap them up in a ridiculous amount of paper towels before I do.

Thanks, Joe. I'm ok with getting a gift card, I'll just use it to pay my monthly bill(s). Also, I think I'll perform the trade in the store, or not at all.
