Coming from iPhone for 7 years help me out with Note 3

Got the note 3 on Verizon after moving and switching jobs. .. my only experience with android is the nexus 7 tablet. ..
What would help me have a good experience with it?? Love it so far..
I turned one handed mode on, etc. really wish I could turn my magazine off from swiping from bottom.
Is it true that since it's Verizon I can't put a custom ROM like xnote on it? I tried looking up rooting earlier to no avail

Cmon' tech board...not one response? That's disappointing.
I have my IT apps on here, citrix, exchange email, etc.
