V/H/S Viral (Spoilers)

I think this one was weaker than the second movie (which so far is the best in the series), but V/H/S Viral had one of the best entries of the entire series.
I'm talking about the story where the inventor creates a machine that opens a doorway to a parallel world in his basement. When the doorway open, he looks thru and notices a mirrored world - the same room and carbon copy of himself. And of course the inventor is videotaping the entire experience.
He starts talking to his parallel self and both he and his carbon copy are extremely excited because his invention worked.
Then, the inventor asks his carbon copy for permission to trade places for a few minutes to see what the parallel world is like. The carbon copy is more than willing to trade places.
He and his carbon copy walk thru the gateway, shake hands, and then silently start to creep thru each other's homes because it's late in the evening and their wives are asleep.
The inventor walks upstairs in his carbon copy's home and finds his attractive wife sitting in the living room in a robe. The TV is showing images of a strange ritual being performed, and on the floor there is a strange contraption. Otherwise, everything in the parallel world is exactly the same as the normal world.
The carbon copy's wife believes the inventor is her husband. She offers him some wine and asks him to have a seat.
Two young men knock on the door. She allows them inside and escorts them into the living room. They quickly take off their clothes down to their underwear. The young men sit next to the wife and everyone acts as if this is normal.
Something isn't right. This seems like the beginning of a twisted orgy.
Suddenly, a loud fog horn blares outside. It startles the inventor but he attempts to act normal. It blares again. Again.
The inventor freaks out and ask the young men to leave. The carbon copy's wife apologizes to them as they leave the house. She gets upset and asks the inventor why he's acting so weird.
The fog horn blares again.
He runs outside to see where the sound is coming from. He looks into the sky and hovering over the house is a large blimp or airship with a giant upside down Satanic cross emblem. The airship is slowly moving over the neighborhood.
At this moment, he realizes that this parallel world worships an evil religion, perhaps Satanism, and then he realizes that his carbon copy is currently stalking thru his house and he panics in fear for his real wife's life...

What is the second one called? I've been wanting to check it out...glad to hear it is better than the first one, because I was HUGELY disappointed in the first.

The first one was a low budget independent flick that had some awful segments and some pretty decent segments.
It was good enough to spawn a series, with each series clearly having a larger budget.
Plus, this is the 3rd movie in the series. You need to check out the 2nd movie. It's pretty insane!

1) V/H/S
2) V/H/S/2
3) V/H/S VIRAL
The 2nd movie is pretty badass and has absolutely insane moments. The 3rd movie isn't as good as the 2nd but it's pretty close. In my opinion, the 3rd movie has the best segment (the one I talk about in the OP)

I skipped that since I haven't seen it yet.
I assume both sequels are similar to the first one in that they are mini-films done by different directors? I dug the format, just thought the stories fell way flat in the first one. Interested to see the next two (I had no idea there was a second one until I saw a thread about this Viral one a couple weeks ago on here).

minor spoilers for Cocomo
that parallel segment had alot of potential, and it was definitely pretty creepy. But the monster genetalia kind of ruined the mood. Other than that Viral was complete trash.
I enjoyed the first two

I agree. But you have to admit that the monster genetalia was most certainly a WTF moment! And it explains why his actual wife killed him. I mean, she was just horribly raped by a Satanic monster dick and she thought her actual husband was the rapist.
I think it's a damn good segment.
The parallel world idea could be turned into a feature length horror movie, IMO.

Don't worry about spoilers...I'm avoiding them easy enough (but appreciate the thought ).
Next question is how did you watch these? DVD? Netflix? Are they online?

Agree with kills that V/H/S 2 is superior to the first one. Indonesian cult and zombie with a GoPro were awesome.

Indonesian cult
Without a doubt one of the best segments of the entire series. Almost on equal footing with the "parallel world" segment from the third movie.
Honestly, they should cut the best segments from all three movies and create a 4th "greatest hits" VHS movie.

If I can find it online, I may try to catch the second one tonight.

Okay I just watched 2.
The first part with the dude and his eyecam was okay. A little creepy I guess, but not great.
I thought the zombie GoPro was laughably bad. I liked the attempt, and the idea is cool. But the whole angle of him still having feelings was pretty stupid. And come on, he was making "hmm? mmmm" sounds left and right.
The Indonesian cult one was really good. I thought the whole goat-headed demon thing was kinda lame, but the setting and all the suicides were creepy as frick. Definitely one of the best of the series.
The last one with the alien abduction was okay. Reminded me a little of Alien Abduction (which is a good thing).
As for the "main" storyline, it wasn't too bad. I liked that the dude had just attempted his suicide right before ole boy and his girl walked in. I don't get what happened to his girl though...why did she turn on him and turn into that thing (a demon?)?
All in all, not terrible. Definitely better than the first one. The cult part lone makes the movie worth a watch IMO.
I'll try to check out the Viral one soon as well.

Demon "I Like You" Girl and the Haunted House segment in the first VHS are the best segments in that movie.
Indonesian Cult is certainly the best segment in VHS2.
Parallel World is the best segment in VHS Viral.
If they edited those four segments together into one movie, that would be an incredibly solid horror anthology.

Okay, I watched Viral a couple nights ago, and shame on you, mizzou...that was fricking horribly awful trash. It has to be one of the worst movies I've ever seen.
For starters, the "main" storyline was trash, and didn't even really make much sense. So there's someone driving around town in circles (with police chasing) in an ice cream truck, and they magically steal people? What was the deal with the mexicans and that explosion? What was the deal/point of the little video on the phones? It was always that one same girl, and that was supposed to put people in some sort of horrible trance or whatever? It made zero sense, and the funniest part was the people keeping up with the vehicles on bicycles.
Okay, so the Magician one with the cloak. I like that it was a decent setup for a story, but it was VERY poorly executed and the acting was pretty bad. Also did a bad job of explaining why so much stuff was recorded. Also, there were edited shots, like of his assistant being questioned at the police station and all that. That's not what the whole "V/H/S" thing is supposed to be about...it's supposed to be recorded footage, not spliced-together-to-make-a-story footage. And the whole "feeding bodies to the cloak" was pretty stupid. It would've been better had they just let it be a weird, magical Houdini cloak.
The second one, which mizzou jizzes all over in the OP...it was okay. Easily the best one, and the whole parallel dimension portal was cool. I even didn't mind the other dude/wife being pervs and all that, or the Satanic angle. But it completely lost me with the gigantic demon penises. That was so laughably bad and so horrifically stupid, that it ruined the whole segment for me. So that one had potential, but didn't deliver like it should have, and fell completely off the cliff in the end. Also, it was edited back and forth between their camera footage, instead of just focusing on one. Again, not how the VHS movies are supposed to be IMO.
The third segment with the skater kids in Tijuana and the cult murderers was just bad. I guess they were trying to go for a video game sort of feel (like Call of Duty zombies maybe?), but it didn't deliver at all. And the worst part was that the kids never seemed to give a single frick that their friends were being brutally murdered all over the place or that they were in danger. shite, they even kept laughing and talking shite to all those supernatural things. Also, the fact that they were riding around on their skateboards the whole time made it even more stupid.
The "wrap-up" part of the main storyline was even more jarbled than the different clips throughout the movie. It just didn't make any sense...so the dude finally catches up to the ice cream truck and finds it empty inside, then all of a sudden his girl is on the outside and her face was smashed into the van (I guess..???) and she's dying? And then that's basically it? How the frick does that make any sense whatsoever?
And the thing that was the worst was that, aside from the skaters wanting to make a popular (read: viral) skating video, none of the other segments had anything to do with "viral."
All in all, it's not even worth watching, not even for the parallel universe segment (despite having some promise, it sucks too). It's easily one of the worst movies I've ever seen in my life, and I say that as someone who is pretty easy to please when it comes to movies. This ranks up there with Cabin Fever and Freddie Got Fingered for me. Avoid it at all costs if possible.
And if this is where the V/H/S franchise is headed, then I'm most likely out for any new ones. And again, frick you, mizzou, for making me think this one was worth it.
