quote:

John Legend gave an impassioned speech calling out the present-day state of affairs for African Americans. One line stood out: "We live in the most incarcerated country in the world. There are more black men under correctional control today than there were under slavery in 1850."

Solid compromise that makes too much sense and will never happen.

This seems like a good idea, but it's so hard to actually project how this would go. What if our country is just completely useless in 10 years? We can't exactly reverse that.

What is stopping you from shooting up heroin or smoking crack? Is it the law, or because you have the sense not to?

When I was in high school, fear of the law (and ruining my life) kept me from doing lots of stupid things. If hard drugs were legal (even for 21+), there is a much higher change I would have tried them.

It would probably be harder to aquire hard drugs if they were legalized.

Personally, I think people who are interested in drugs will do them regardless of the legal consequences. Me, for example. While I've never done heroin or crack (think I've accidentally taken meth a time or two), it's not because the legality. I just don't want to do them.

To me, the idea that the law keeps people from doing stupid shite to themselves is as silly as the idea that the belief in a deity keeps people from murdering and raping at will.

No fricking way. Beer is super easy to get for minors. If hard drugs were sold like beer, it would be the same situation.

Cannabis is easier to acquire than alcohol. Source: was buying weed way before beer, while wanting beer.

ill channel my inner strong safety (SS) for yall:

The inner city crime problem is prompted by social and economic isolation. It stems from a minority suppressed for decades and nothing has been done to fix it. The "get tough on crime" and "war on drugs" unfairly targets minorities. Black people serve around the same amount of jail time for drug offenses and whites do for VIOLENT crimes. Both around 60 months.

It's way easier to get weed than alcohol if you're under 21. Black market distributors don't ask for IDs.
