We will disagree

So why's it okay to kill for a tournament (essentially bragging rights a trophy and maybe some money)

But not okay to bring it in to eat?

In taste and texture what does Blue Marlin meat compare to?

The reason is they aren't plentiful. You can drag baits for days and maybe get one or two knock downs.

Slightly firmer than wahoo, more steak like or bigger flakes
But similar taste

I always order it if it's on the menu in a restaurant

I kill a 150" buck for the rack not the meat, but I also eat the meat. I kill a 1000lb marlin for the mount but I also eat the meat/ share it. Marlin aren't endangered, you can catch 20 a day in Costa Rica on the FADs they have started using there.

Your naming one specific place. I'm talking in general. And you can't mount a marlin. Only the bill and tail. Any fish you see one walls are fiberglass reproductions.

Well Hawaii is known to have plenty of marlin. And people get molds made of their fish, so even if it isn't the actual skin and bones it is the one you caught.

What a lying frick you are. You know nothing if you thought that fish was going to survive.

And then your other excuse is that there are better fish to eat! Lol

So we shouldn't kill Mallards since teal taste better? Ok clown.

The article says the fish died during the fight. Hell of a fish, I can't imagine hooking into that.

Funny the article stated that because if you watch the video when they sink the gaff, the fish is still thrashing at the boat.

No it wasn't. They overheat and die from exhaustion. Fish was done...no chance at him swimming away healthy.

It is n edible fish! Why are you griping about a great eating fish being killed. There are very few hunters who hold themselves to a higher level of conservation than the billfish sector.

If the fish was dead I'm ok with bringing him back to eat. Hell you could feed the whole marina on steaks from that fish.

Look, these guys spend MILLIONS over their lifetime chasing these billfish. When a grander hits, it's coming home with them.

It's extremely edible and therefore a once in a lifetime fish is definitely a take.

And trust me, none of the meat goes to waste. You eat it fresh whenever possible, so much is given to all who want at the dock.

I'm sure there are idiots who kill when not needed. It is highly frowned upon in the community to kill a smaller marlin for no reason. That's why during tournaments, a big catch is announced by the boat and estimated even before it reaches the scale. That keeps others from killing marginal fish that won't hit the tourney money. Those fish are tagged and there is a Tag division in most tourneys. So if someone tags 5 marlin but none are big, they stiil might win a very nice amount of money.
