Local Tax on Dealer Boat Sales

Who gets the tax? The parish you live in or the parish the dealer is in?
I always thought this worked like an auto sale but the billboard in BR for Boat City USA has me scratching my head. They are advertising in EBR that they have a low 7% sales tax. But why should that matter to anyone outside of Tangipahoa if its based on your domicile? I mean it could be just to lure people in but do they really want to start off that relationship with a pissed off customer once they get the forms?

the sales tax goes to the parish where the boat is sold. At least that is what I have been quoted by several dealers in the last few weeks.

I believe it's where you take possession. If they deliver to your house, it's your rate. If you drive it off the lot, it's theirs

Wow so two different answers...

It is based on the location where you take delivery with a boat. It is not the same with cars.
The dealer will charge their parish rate unless you live in a low-tax parish and they are willing to deliver. This can be handy with especially expensive boats.

I am guessing, but maybe the. Boat is taxed wherever you take possession, but the trailer is taxed in the parish that it is registered in , because the trailer is registered through dmv and the boat only with WL&F
