I was not impressed at all last night with Norman. It may have been the cold weather but his fastball was only 85 and flat.

He wasn't fooling NSU hitters, that's not good.
My guess is when he has movement he's more effective. Did not see much movement last night and with it being so cold it could have had an impact on him. Not to mention he probably doesn't realize how much these games mean to in state competition. But you will need someone better or a better outing to go up against the ULL, Tulane, etc.

Will probably see Bouman with a midweek start next to get him back on track.

Reynolds could be another option and he looked pretty good in relief of Godfrey on Sun. They like Godfrey because of his velocity and outside of some hit batters and the errors behind him Kansas could not keep up with his overall stuff, only 2 hits and way behind his fastball.

Agree completely. I wonder why we haven't seen Hunter Newman yet this year either.

Newman must not have come back as strong, not sure what his velocity was during scrimmages but does not appear to be in the mix at this point.

Bugg looked good last night which is good and so did Cartwright.

Bain is kind of a wildcard as well, threw a nice breaking ball last night

They looked smooth and in control last night. Cartwright's 3 Ks were impressive.

We need second year guys like Bugg and AC to be solid in middle relief because these freshmen will have inevitable rough patches like Norman had last night.

Norman's #'s for spring scrimmages: 12.2IP, 11H, 5ER, 3.69ERA.

I think when Latz comes back you see Godfrey pushed to midweek and possibly Norman going to relief 5th starter role. Latz was arguably the best freshman we had come in, Godfrey would do well in the mid-week role. His emotions might be a bit much come SEC starts.

He threw on Friday in Houston and felt fine. He is scheduled to have another MRI today to see if there was any remaining fluid on his elbow.

Deichmann got the boot off his foot and is supposed to practice today.
