On the mid-coast in TX the dumbest duck would be the redhead. If you can't get limit of redheads daily, you're doing it wrong.

Greys are definitely not dumb birds especially late season in the marsh. Dosgris on the other hand have to be the dumbest bird. There are a ton of canvasbacks in Venice after the second split.
Here's one I'm getting mounted.

Had one in a pot roast this season, he took forever to give up, but was absolutely delicious when he was done.

Canvasback and redheads are not often encountered in the area I hunt (GA/ SC)

Spoon Bills are fine if you're hunting rice fields. Not saying eat them whole. But save up a few and use them in your gumbo.

This. I will take rice field spoonies over most ducks anyday. Got a few breasts in the freezer that I'm looking forward to.

Your message contradicts itself.

How can a Wood Duck be a "close second" if the Teal is "far superior"?

I prefer the Wood duck over the Teal, but the difference is almost negligible.

Not at all. My message was towards the OP when referencing the taste of a teal compared to a canvasback.
