Whoever wrote that article must be completely out of touch with reality.

She sounds excited about this

No kidding. There must be some real garbage out there.

I wanted to throw my TV in the street the other night when I saw McCarthy portray Matt Foley.

Everyone associated with this movie can rot in hell.

Leslie Jones is so horribly unfunny. Maybe she is better on other things though...I have only seen her on SNL.

I don't have a huge problem with shite being rebooted, but even this seems like a pretty bad idea.

I do like Wiig a lot though, and I get the McCarthy casting. However, I'm not sure I could hate Leslie JOnes more than I currently do. Who the frick thinks this chick is talented or funny in ANY way?

Looking at her IMDb list, the only things I really know her from are SNL, and an episode of The League and Workaholics. But she is straight up garbage on SNL...I don't think I've ever cracked a smile at anything she's done on there. Yet she gets cast in this? Even if you need a token black chick to match the original, why her?

She sucks.

I wouldn't watch the new BSG because Starbuck was cast as a female, it wasn't until later I discovered what a great show I missed.

I think The Dissolve said it best: Your childhood is not sacred.

quote:

Myopic nostalgia assumes that the new will inherently be worse than the old out of a combination of misplaced romanticization of the past and knee-jerk cynicism about the future. Some were enraged by the notion of Chris Pratt as a new Indiana Jones, but which would you rather see, a charming, fresh-faced new star in his thirties tackling an iconic role, or cranky, dispirited old Harrison Ford lugging his aged bones around in a follow-up to the widely reviled Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull? Perhaps because I was not a Star Trek fan growing up, I found J.J. Abrams’ reboot of the franchise exciting, dynamic, and fun. Who’s to say that talented people like Feig, Wiig, and McCarthy won’t find ways to make Ghostbusters their own? Would audiences really prefer the thinking behind Ghostbusters 2 (the same as before, but worse) over a radical re-invention of the series from people who grew up revering Ghostbusters?

There’s an unmistakable element of generational chauvinism to these complaints as well. I want my son, who is now just under four months old, to watch and love Ghostbusters the way I did when I was eight years old. But I’m also excited about him growing up with a Ghostbusters franchise where women are front and center in heroic, central roles, rather than limited to supporting roles as secretaries and love interests inhabited by demons at key moments. Old isn’t necessarily good, just as new isn’t necessarily bad.

They were gonna remake this regardless, I'm glad it's not someone trying to imitate Bill Murray or worse yet, watching the original cast, sans Harold Ramis, lazily collect a paycheck for a sequel we don't need.

Maybe the new one will be good, maybe it will suck. But it won't erase the existence of the original. Go back and watch it, it's still real funny. But let go of your childhood... it's someone else's turn.

I would too, if she were playing the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Woman.

Has a online "Boycott the new Ghostbusters" been started yet? If not, then I ask, what's taking so long?

I agree with you on that for sure. I don't have a huge problem with this, except that I don't like some of the casting. And to be honest, going female is a smart choice (if you're gonna reboot it...which I don't really think it shouold be). If you go with dudes, it will be trying to imitate the original, like your quote mentions. And as cool of an idea as it is to have the original cast try to do something, that would feel sort of sad in a way unless it's pulled off perfectly.

So going with a female cast at least is trying to do something different.

And I am squarely in the "my childhood isn't ruined by this" camp. Just like the Transformers movies didn't ruin childhood me's love of the cartoons/toys. And the Ninja Turtles reboots didn't ruin my love for the old movies. Or a Goonies reboot/sequel wouldn't tarnish the original movie. Etc. People who bitch about those kinds of things and who say shite like that are laughable IMO, and I've defended that stance before on here.

This new Ghostbusters may be hilarious, or it may suck (I tend to lean toward the latter), but either way the original (and the sequel, actually) will still be completely fricking awesome. Hell, if anything, these reboots make me appreciate the originals that much more because I see how bad they could've been.
