The quarterback competition that Washington Redskins coach Jay Gruden discussed after the season apparently has ended. Gruden told reporters at the NFL scouting combine Wednesday that Robert Griffin III will enter next season as the starter.

Griffin, entering his fourth season, ended the season as the starter thanks to an injury to Colt McCoy.

quote:

"We'll go into the season with Robert as our No. 1 guy," Gruden said. "It's up to Robert to continue to grow and mature as a quarterback and as a person. Moving forward we want to see improvement. It's up to us as a staff to get more out of him."

It's not a surprise, given the investment made in Griffin three years ago. But it was surprising after what Gruden had said after last season ended.

Meanwhile Kirk Cousins has been working out with John Gruden

Ehh considering everyone thought Griffin was done as a starter. I thought it was relevant news.

But please share your two cents on what should/shouldnt be posted on the MSB.

Yea I'm sure Jay Gruden had zero say in that. Dan Snyder said to name RG3 the starter and so it was done.

seeing as how his name is gruden, he did a great job in cincy, and the awesome jobs that opened up this year, and last

he has to be killing himself for taking this fricking job

saddled with a shitty qb he doesn't want (worse, is still the best option on the team but not by much)

a meddling owner and a GM who has all the power over him

aside from the paycheck, what's to be happy about?

This is so earth shattering and important in February. No time left for Colt McCoy or any other guy to make gains on him.

It's a pretty big statement. I've been worried they might go QB in the draft or big money in FA (Bradford?). So it gives an indication of how they are planning to go ahead. I'm not a RG3 fan anymore. But with what they gave up, they kind of have to give it one more shot. The rest of the team isn't really that far from playoff contention (once they shore up OL holes and the secondary). So it's all on the QB..

It's the same statement they've made the past 2 seasons

They're not in a position to get a QB and it's an extremely weak QB class. Not a hard decision to make

r big money in FA (Bradford?).

Is not and likely will not be a free agent. The best FA guys will likely be Josh Mcown and Mark Sanchez. Not a hard decision to make there either

RG3 was hurt two seasons ago and no one even knew if he would play or how much. Last year was more of an open competition. Cousins looked horrible and RG3 has a big cap hit. So if they aren't going to start him, they would have to move him somehow. The plan to keep him for another season has a huge impact on the team.

They have the 5th pick. Mariotta will probably be there, as will any late risers. Plus they have picks later in the draft. Still an option.

I was just throwing out a big name. I didn't know a decision had already been made. I know he has a major cap figure and they want to renegotiate. With the lack on major QBs, Bradford might opt to test the market than take a lower contract. But maybe he stays with the Rams..

I was told by a poster on Saints Talk that the team should target Sanchez, as he would be an upgrade over Brees at this point. So you obviously have no clue what you're talking about.
