List your own personal top 5 moments / achievements in dark souls 1 (not 2). Ranked by how awesome you felt after you finally took down that a-hole and cleared his zone. Feel free to include newgame+ iterations, as 4Kings on Ng+ is QUITE tougher than 4Kings on first playthrough and an accomplish in its own right, for instance.

Honorable mention

-Iron Golem atop sen's fortress (mainly due to the fortress itself)
-Sif
-Bed of Chaos

5. Gwyn, Lord of Cinder

Starting off my list is the "final boss". He was pretty underwhelming. I didnt even parry, just used terrain. But in DS Lore he is really weakened anyways so it makes sense he wasn't that tough. But since he is the final boss and wasnt exactly easy, he makes my top5

4. Manus, Father of the Abyss

My First DLC entry. This guy here was tough as frick and it didnt help that you had to clear a pitch black underworld to get to him. Really a great fight but only comes in at 4 because it didnt take me that many tries to kill him (~7 or 8). Thanks baby Sif!

3. Dragonslayer Ornstein and Executioner Smough

Everyone remembers this fight and it would be #1 if not for the incredible DLC. I read a lot of lore regarding these two and they are quite fascinating. Fighting 1 by himself would be challenging enough, but both at once made for quite a battle. Everyone remembers the first time they conquered this notorious duo. I defeated them in 1 try though on Ng+ because i knew how to fight them and was geared correctly.

2. Knight Artorius, the Abysswalker

This guy was just crazy difficult to me, but completely fair and balanced. His lore is amazing. The arena you battle him in is great. He wields a 2 handed greatsword with his off hand. I died many many times trying to duel him and felt really releived to move on. Definitely let out an audible cheer when i won.

1. Black Dragon Kalameet

Holy frick, this dragon here. It took me a few days to beat him. The toughest boss in the game imo and he comes after you beat all the other tough bosses. You think are are badass and have a great character and can beat anyone.. nope.. black dragon kalameet says frick you and reminds you that you are nothing. Takes precise execution and precision for at least 20 minutes and one mistimed dodge will ruin your attempt.

i had such a stupid build my first time through and it really fricked me up. so much easier on the subsequent trips once I knew what was going on. I dumped everything into strength and used the dragon's tooth with a tank build.

every build after, i could go without a shield if i wanted. roll roll roll

I never beat Manus or Kalameet because the file that I tried to play them on was on NG++++. Something else came out and I just said frick it

Great test achievement was Ornstein and Smough. Took me about 2 weeks of on and off playing before I finally beat them. smashed a controller too.

4 Kings on NG+ and above are insanely hard

Artorias gave me a lot of grief as well. Top 3 for me, i suppose

Is strength a build that just screws you? I feel like you got to go agility to dodge and roll

I can't even imagine kalameet or manus on ng++++

Yeah, dodging is important and strength can be a trap. You have to manage your encumbrance so you aren't too heavy and begin to "fat roll"

im sure there are some guys out there that can make it work. i couldnt. i beat the game with it, but it was absurd

once i discovered rolling, i never looked back

1.) Grinding my character early to the point the game became super easy.
2.) Became so easy I quit because the challenge wasn't there anymore.
3.) the butthurt everyone gets because of it.

I think your list is spot on. I honestly stomped the frick out of a controller on 4 Kings in NG+.

yeah 4k on ng+ is where I ended my ds career.

frick that. I spent days researching a dps build to beat them along with 10 tries a night.

Maybe got to the 3rd king once. Still pisses me off I couldn't beat them tbh.

I really hated Capra Demon there at the beginning. He fricked me up to where I had to put the game down for a while. I couldn't deal with his double sword slam as soon as I walked through the goddamn fog gate. And those stupid dogs. So when I finally did kill his arse, with sweaty palms, that was the moment when I got totally hooked on the game. I don't think I've ever died to another capra demon since that time. But I still respect him as an enemy. Because of that experience.

EDIT: Yeah, Kalameet.... I still have never solo'd him. Every time I try, I just end up summoning people. He's so difficult.

I still have yet to play the DLC I downloaded 2 years ago so I get to experience the rage for the first time. Be jealous

On the base game alone I'll say

5. Rooftop Gargoyles. Yea, they're easy now but I attempted them too early on my first play through and almost wanted to quit
4. Sif. Timing and placement is everything
3. The Asylum Demon (under the floor). HATED THAT JERK
2. Gwyn (only reason he's not #1 is b/c I was able to beat him easily once I got the timing down
1. O&S - Thanks Corndog Cologne

THIS!! My fatal flaw is every game I try to build a "jack of all trades" character. That makes Dark Souls infinitely more difficult

I think this screwed me over in demon souls. I plan to restart it soon and give it another chance.

Yeah the early bosses are plenty fun and challenging.

The game went next level for me after defeating sens and taking the gargoyle ferry to Anor Londo

For pre Anor Londo achievements I'll go with:

1. Chaos witch quelagg cause frick blighttown
2. Iron golem (sens fortress is my favorite level in a game)
3. Capra demon
4. Gargoyles (everyone's first 'oh frick this game' experiece)
5. Gaping dragon. I hated the depths

Even the bosses not mentioned, like gravelord nito in the tomb of the giants, crossbreed Priscilla in the painted world, and firesage demon in the demon ruins offered they're own brand of fun and challenge.

I'll make this a Souls list, as opposed to just DaS.

•Did a sl1 of DaS (4 Kings were a fricking nightmare)
•No deaths/no bonfires in DaS2
•sl1 in DaS2 with just 50 deaths
•Beat the hardest bosses in Demon's on first or second try, without cheesing
•solo'd all bosses in DaS on first playthrough

Especially after feeling like I'd never finish the game because I couldn't beat the goddamn Tauras Demon when I first started. It was a profound moment when the credits rolled haha...

I love Artorias and Kalameet. They're an endurance test but a blast to fight.

I loved the artorias fight so much I put my sign down there to help, some nights

Gwyndolin was a pretty cool fight too. Crazy to me that such a major boss with huge lore implications is completely hidden and optional. Dark Anor Londo is sweet

That fricking forest you had to clear to get to artorias was a bitch. Such an amazing dlc. First encounter? Of course a boss, Meet the sanctuary guardian.

I had trouble with seath the scaleless and his zone too. Those invisible platforms and troll signs put down by other players were a bitch

The whole point of this post really is to enjoy nostalgia first, but also to pump us up for bloodborne.

I really hope its a next gen dark souls 1. I have high hope and faith in the director

1. Beating it in about 2 hours doing speedrun strats

2. my soul level 1 character. i havent beaten th egame yet, but i have beaten every boss except gwynn and the dlc guys. i mainly use him to invade the burg. i have a fully upgraded flame reinforced club that 1 shots anyone there

3. not finished yet, but im currently doing a playthrough with a buddy, 2 guys 1 controller. im on the left side doing movement, menu navigation, and shielding, hes on the right doing attacks, inputs, and camera. got up to ornstein and smaugh so far, and was within a hit of killing giant ornstein

4. my "dickwraith" character. another twink style character that i have, decked out in the noob's uniform the gold himmed set. ive gotten to rank 4 in the dark wraith with this guy just from invading sen's fortress. hes only level 40 but he has everything pumped into magic, as well as big hat's staff, and the dlc black magic, including manus's persuers

5. My dragonbro. one of those things where "that guy" said that there is a secret covenant underneath blightown that turns you into a dragon. well i went underneath blightown, and i fought myself to 50 dragonscales and became a dragon
