I'm constantly trying to get my dad to try knew stuff and it's aggravating as hell. It's like fricking pulling teeth. I know for a fact if he will give a show 3-4 episodes, he'd like it. He'll give a show 15 minutes if I suggest it. Recent suggestions were Avatar:TLAB, Supernatural (X-Files is his favorite show), Fargo (he loved the movie) Game of Thrones (he claimed it was overcomplicated dungeons and dragons BS, despite the fact he's read WoT and dozens of Star Trek books). I need new tactics. Yes, this really really really bothers me. If I suggest something for someone and they don't like it, I'm bothered. It happens with no one else but my dad. Even my ex appreciated some of the more obscure/darker movies she'd never heard of.

My dad won't watch anything I suggest. Even shite I know he should love. Biggest one - A Christmas Story. He grew up listening to radio and early TV, A Christmas Story is the perfect era and sense of humor for him, I've tried to get him to watch it for years, but he won't watch it because if I recommend something, it must be for kids. Nevermind how freaking old I actually am.

It's nothing but trying to suggest something to him that you know he would like if he had discovered it on his own.

I was thinking of introducing GoT, but too many sex scenes. That and I have to translate it for them.

My mom has been willing to give most of the movies and TV shows I suggest a try.

Game of thrones. After watching the first season my Dad spent the next year reading all five books and the Dunk and Egg books.

I didn't even bother recommending Breaking Bad because my mom usually hates any show glorifying the drug trade because my step brother has been in and out of rehab for the last 2 years. Last year though when they did the marathons before the finale she and her husband went on a 2 month Breaking Bad binge on Netflix. Go figure.

I miss my Dad

We had very similar taste in TV. He was a huge fan of X-files, Stargate SG1 and Atlantis, all the Star Treks, LOST. He loved Fringe but sadly passed away during the second season and my biggest regret for him (I'm sure if he had any it wasn't this) is that he did not get to see the final season of LOST, it was one of his all time favorites. He did get to see the Saints win a superbowl though

My dad has a theater room, and he probably hasn't been to the movies in 5 years. He always claims he will watch stuff at home, but he doesn't. Cracks me up.

My mom on the other hand loves my suggestions. She only watches rom coms on her own, so she likes that I give her suggestions on what to watch.

My Mom's taste is way different than mine. I think the only show she watches that I would even consider watching is The Blacklist. She's a The Good Wife, NCIS kind of person.
