Pamela Geller is planning a “Draw the Prophet” event in Garland, Texas in the same location as a Muslim group held a “Stand with the Prophet” conference in January. The First Annual Muhammad Art Exhibit and Contest will be hosted by the Curtis Caldwell Center, which is owned and operated by the Garland Independent School District.

The contest will take submissions online and the winner will be announced at the event in Garland. The winning cartoonist will receive a $10,000 prize. The exhibit will feature images of Islam’s prophet in both historical and contemporary settings. There will also be a series of speeches by internationally renowned free-speech advocates.

Time to dust of the old "How to Draw" book my mom gave me.

What if God was one of us, doo doo doo doo.

$10,000 should cover the funeral costs for the winner.

Well I won't be attended this event.

What are the odds of violence?

Lets just go stick our dicks in a hornets nest to show how stupid the Hornets are for overreacting.

Honestly, the event's poster art is a pretty legit interpretation of Norman Rockwell's iconic painting. Seems like it should win the contest itself.

Scruffy likes when people troll in real life.

Now, let's sit back and see what happens.

Pretty sure Terd and I were the only takers a couple years back. We should have waited for the prize money to go up.

Totally agree, dude.

I can't even recall the number of times bees have attacked me for sketching a picture of their queen.

I don't want to defend or offend. I want to fricking ignore.

We all know they're fricking nuts about this and don't believe in Freedom of Speech. What dose it prove to antagonize? I would rather just know they're nuts instead of giving them more reasons to prove it.

One drawing in a cartoon is one thing. Holding an event for the sole reason of pissing them off seems childish to me. I''m sure we can find better ways to use $10,000.

Peaceful protests and/or peacefully antagonizing people who violently adhere to wrongful positions can have great results. Worked pretty well for MLK.

Here are some that I made a few years ago on Draw Muhammad Day:

What an asinine comparison.

MLK marched to protest segregation and racial inequality in our country. It had a direct impact on improving lives in America.

This is to piss off an ancient religion of over a billion people on the other side of the world. It will not change anything.

If people don't see this as childish I don't know what to say. I don't agree with their religion, or any for that matter, but this is unnecessary.

I really don't care that much, because it isn't involving me and they are doing this to themselves, I'm just saying my opinion on a message board

I'll forget about this in 10 minutes.

ETA:

And who are you to say this?

It is against their religion to draw or create images of their Prophet.

The violence is wrong, no doubt, but its so ridiculous to say a belief in their religion is "wrong"

Don't believe in drawing a man =/= don't believe black people are equal human beings.

One group tried to deny constitutional rights to a group of people (life, liberty, pursuit of happiness), while another group is trying to deny constitutional rights to a group of people (right to free speech).

Yeah, not drawing a man is totally on par with segregation.

They can't deny our freedom of speech either. There have been no constitutional rights violated. Rosa couldn't sit at the front of the bus, go to white school, or vote. Anyone can draw Mohammad whenever they fricking want.

I just don't get why they'd want to.

Pardon my ignorance, but is any depiction of Muhammad considered sacrilege or is it just depictions of Muhammad that make fun of him?
