What's your opinion of "worker villages" popping up in Louisiana?

Sounds like a 3rd world model to me.

CAMERON PARISH, LA (KPLC) - Tensions rose between residents and potential contractors over a worker village at a Cameron Parish Police Jury meeting Thursday morning.

The proposed facility, known as Kingfisher Lodge, would house 2,500 workers and would be situated on 170 acres near the intersection of Joe Dugas Road and Hwy 27 in Hackberry.

The $70 million facility would be developed and managed by Greenfield Logistics, LLC, while ESS would handle catering, the Cormorant Group would be in charge of security, and Workforce Medical Center would provide medical services.

For them if the local workforce can't handle a major project. It prevents local prices from going crazy and will allow the community to return to normal once the project is complete. If people are displaced with high prices then community will forever be changed.

I'm hearing they're bringing in foreign workers who will be "shipped" back and forth to work everyday. Yeah, I'll go ahead and predict this won't be popular.

Major concerns about the facility included traffic, food availability, whether the workers were black, Hispanic, or white, and increased strain on first responders.

State of Alabama shut some of these down back in the early 2000's. Lot of controversy surrounding them.

Houma is building "luxury apartments" to house the influx of workers that have no place to live. In just the past 3 years 3 new "luxury apartments" have been built. IMO todays luxury apartments are tomorrows section 8 housing and the worst part is they built these things right in the middle of the high end real state. Houma is doomed...DOOOOOOMED.

My cousin has a large contract with this project. He was telling me that the contract terms were very risky. Took him a while to decide if he wanted to get into the contract with them.

This. I saw a documentary on these kinds of work villages up north. Prostitution and drugs went through the roof in the nearby small town.

Yep. And Cameron Parish doesn't have a sterling reputation for anti-corruption policies. LOL. Should turn out swell.
