Predictions on his sentence?
quote:
"Joseph Branch has completely ruined my life," Morris told the judge. "Branch was smiling as he left the court, because his lawyer thought they got a win, but whatever, same thing, nothing's different."
quote:
Actual sentencing for Branch was pushed back to March 18 because of motions for a new trial which were filed by Branch's new defense team, then withdrawn Wednesday morning. Branch faces up to 30 years in prison for his conviction.
Predictions on his sentence?

I know the guy a little and really could care less what his sentence is. He always came across as a prick that thinks he is above everyone else. I haven't talked to the guy in probably 10 years so maybe he changed but I never cared for him. He deserves whatever punishment is given to him. I'm interested to see what he gets.

Hopefully they throw the book at him, but they probably won't because it's south Louisiana and drunk driving isn't taken seriously except as a revenue generator.
Get caught driving drunk? Pay the fine.
Get caught driving drunk and kill someone? Pay a bigger fine.

Anybody else notice they used tigerdroppings as a source for the picture in the video?
Also, he'll probably do 5 years and get out for good behavior or some shite. LA is so weak on drunk drivers it's silly.

I hope he gets a stiff sentence as well b/c he was driving way too fast way too drunk(i'm actually a proponent of the bac up to .13 and then first dwi is treated like a 3rd with regards to current penalties).
I have said for years(I've driven Perkins since it was widened), that's one DANGEROUS road to ride a bike on at night. Nobody deserves to be hit and killed but the risk of riding side by side at night at that particular curve is just ABSURDLY high. I have seen two people almost get hit there before in recent years(driver swerves at last second to left lane).
Perkins needs a fricking bike lane from highland to City Park , bottomline. I think the families should focus a civil suit on that aspect.

hopefully the max, and then hopefully someone runs him over once he gets out. I haven't heard a single redeemable thing about this guy.

Larry Leo is replacing Brian Williams...

I know people who knew the victim and other people who know the offender. It's odd watching the hatred flow. Obviously it's warranted... I mean, the dude killed somebody. And seriously injured someone else. But seeing people's vitriolic anger bubble up next to people who are clearly friends of Branch is at the very least interesting.

Did you see his lawyer Jimmie Mannassa said that his client had been through a Traumatizing experience too?
Nice work Jimmie, pocket your 30k fee and watch your client get the max with that brilliant defense.

5-7 yrs is my prediction

I know people on both sides too and I've purposely stayed out of it. Joey killed someone and it could have been prevented. It's really sad for the families of both parties.

He'll probably end up getting 8-12 years but only do about a 3rd of that
unfortunately, in 2012, vehicular homicide was not considered a crime of violence so he wouldnt have to serve the mandatory 85%
ETA: could be much more or much less, i dont know who the judge is

I hate to bring his sexual preference in this but this ole boy is gonna have a difficult time in the pen. I used to hear him always talking about being able to turn straight guys gay. (which is impossible if you are straight) But that attitude is gonna get his @ss punished. literally.

Interesting
From all accounts the guy is cocky, and the bulldog receipt with the shitty tip that surfaced didn't help

Wait, he ran over someone at night? On Seigen? Riding two abreast?
Seems like some contributory negligence there to me. I mean common sense should come in to play at some point in all this.
Of course if he was drunk that puts all the burden on him.....

He wasn't just drunk, he had some astronomical BAC.
