I finally saw Gray's importance, and why he can be key this season and next.

He's wild and out of control at times. Very raw for a junior, lacks discipline.

BUT- here's the thing: he's here now, and will be here next year too (kid's not an early draft prospect).

And inside all that wildness, he DOES have the talent to play against the Kentuckys out there. And at one point, when the game was slipping away, he drilled a 3 to stop the bleeding. From that point we stayed even and hung around, and were in place for the run after the technical.

This happened as Kentucky was starting to put us away, and Martin and Mickey were beginning to vanish; everyone was short-arming things. It looked like we were gonna get blown out. Gray was the one who made that shot; then he made a brilliant pass to Quarterman on a fastbreak, and the team revived.

Gray needs to get under control, definitely. Needs to play within the team, not try to do it all by himself. But he does have another year to go, and he could make the transition to floor general.

At the pg position you can not have that many turnovers and bad plays. for all the good things he does there are about two times as many bad things.

I think the OP means that this is very true but he will develop. Just like TQ last year, looked lost sometimes and didn't have an offensive rhythm. The best part is Gray can only get better and same with Patterson.

He is about as streaky as a player I've seen.

Did Gray have any turnovers besides the terrible timeout/5 second pick n roll call? He's gonna have trouble finishing at the rim, especially in a game like this...but I thought outside of UMASS and Ole Miss this was his best game of the year. Harrison and Ulis couldn't get by him and were visibly frustrated

Gray could have 10 assists and 1 turnover and the mouthbreathers on this board would shite all over him for the turnover.

His defense was top notch this game. Still streaky on O but that's all of our guards. Him and Patterson are a good combo though. Both provide much different things.

We all know he's got the ability, he just has to make better decisions. He also has to take care of the ball more !

His TO problem is starting to get better IMO. As for his descion making I think he's still trying to figure out what he can do thats best for the team.

The bad things can be coached into remission. He did several things that can't be coached; he WAS able to drive at times into the teeth of that defense (although he also got stuffed too, but then Mickey also got dunked on. shite happens against teams like Kentucky).

Still think the biggest thing is the "it" factor. Again, Kentucky had beaten down our frontline, and was in the process of pulling away; I think they were up by 13 at that point. Gray made the 3 and a couple other plays, including the pass to Quarterman (including his teammate in the process), got us back in the game and woke up the crowd.

You need a guy on the team who has "it". It would be preferable that he control himself a little better and not play us OUT of games, but that can be learned. You can't coach a guy to play you back into games, he either has it or he doesn't.

Are you guys watching the same game. I will give you that, yes, he played very good at times and he definitely hit the big 3 to swing the momentum.

However, he also went through a stretch at multiple times during the game where he is was out of control and not leading this team at all. His defense was horrible during the same stretches. It is like he goes through a zone of "streetball" where he thinks he is the only one on the court. At one point, LSU was up by 4 and the center just hit the lucky 2 from the top of the key with 4 min or so left in the game. Gray gets the ball and goes and shoots a 3 from the top of the key without any type of offense being run and off the dribble. A 4 pt lead at that point and he should be calming things down, instead he throws up a brick 3 without burning any clock!!!

He is learning, but my problem is that Jones should see this as well and put Patterson back in the game to calm Gray down. Hell the last 7 min or so it looked like A&M all over again with Gray trying to do it all and not doing much of anything but helping the other team.

He has the talent and he is getting better but he does need to be reeled in at times. The announcer saw it and was saying the same thing during those stretches.

The wild and out of control is way too much like tack minor.

I just don't get why when he and jalyn are in together Jones doesn't shift him to the 2 and let jalyn handle the ball. Let Josh do what he does better naturally and score.

He played better than he has been playing. with that said, Patterson is a floor general and plays under control. Love this kids game for a frosh. He's big, can finish even with the bigs coming at him, he plays good defense, he passes well and protects the ball.

LSU needs gray, however, they need patterson in the game the last 6 minutes more. He's not the liability at the free throw line nor turning the ball over as gray.

Josh Gray's importance to this team is minutes. Anyone with a pulse, who can do something - anything - well, is needed.

He needs to hit the bench for all but 10-12 minutes. Patterson is our point. JG is a capable backup. Nothing more.

You clearly a) don't understsnd basketball or b) don't watch it ever. We didn't score a basket the last 7:30 of the game. He took an open 3 off the dribble when we had nothing else going on...and it wasn't a fricking brick at all. Also, he played lights out defense so get that shite out

The 3 was a big shot. But there is no question Gray hurt the team more than he helped. He was a liability last night, plain and simple.

How? Because he got blocked 3 or 4 times? Against the number 1 shot blocking team in the nation. I just don't see how Patterson or Tim weren't as big as a liability as him last night.

There were at least 2 instances where he should have pulled up in the paint instead of driving it all the way against the tall trees.
