Josh Gray: Long kick out under basket

I've never seen someone drive all the way under the basket just to kick it all the way out beyond the three point line like Josh Gray does. It never fails.
In doing so, he often passes up a good look under the rim plus then turning it over on a stupid long pass.
Why have the coaches told him to NOT do this?

Then you haven't watched much basketball man. It actually was a good pass. Patterson wasn't paying attention.

As a team we cross court pass way too much which leads to a lot of extra turnovers

That is a lot different than what he's doing by driving to the goal jumping then trying to find a player behind him
