This is probably one of the creepiest and infamous urban legends in cinematic history. The belief is that one of the munchkin actors committed suicide by hanging himself on the set of the Tin Man scene.

Hanging Munchkin

However, many people have denounced the legend by saying that it was in fact a peacock that had wandered onto the set.

The fact is that the objects in the background are clearly different depending on which footage you watch.

So what is everyone's take on this one?

An urban legend is all it is. It's just a bird.

Yeah - urban legend. Recall that Technicolor was a logistical nightmare - they had to film on sound stages, mostly, and to get the color right, they had to just blister the set with lights.

That creates some weird shadows and effects of the edges of the set are not pristine and free of objects such as a bird with flamboyant plumage.

Other than the munchkins being a bunch of little drunks (largely accurate), many of the legends around the film have been debunked.

Why are the two videos different? One is obviously doctored, the other isn't.

that was just a cardboard cutout of Ted Danson's character that he had from one of his acting roles

Yeah - it looked strange because the edges were covered with the curtain.

Almost certainly is this:

I love how I'm supposed to believe that the actors either couldn't see a hanging midget right in front of them or just didn't give a shite and kept singing and dancing.

These movie urban legends used to be SO awesome to me when I was younger. And then came the internet which basically made it easy to debunk everything in a matter of minutes (or seconds).

Then the internet got smart and created urban legends/conspirosy theories that are so ridiculous that they are technically impossible to prove wrong, which validates them to dumb people
