When there is no evidence to support the claim other than Syrio being from Bravos and GRRM says that fans are reading too much into that situation and Syrio was going up against a Kingsguard with a stick, yea, I'm gonna believe GRRM and think Syrio is 1) dead and 2) not a faceless man

Red Viper easy. The guy beat the mountain in a fight before he got cocky. Syrio would have 0 chance against the mountain and his movements wouldn't be able to trick Oberyn
