Recruiting Bash History....

A friend and I went to a couple of the first recruiting bashes. I think the first we went to was February 1997. And, I think it was at the LSU Gym/Armory (could be wrong /old building on campus)and cost $35.00. That included jambalaya, beer, etc. No special tables or VIP seats, etc. Just a bunch of die hard Tiger fans getting together to pass a good time.
What I remember most were the (2) big tube tv sets that were placed on folding chairs. They were hooked to VHS players and we all gathered around to watch highlight tapes of Thomas Dunson, Abram Booty, Muskingum Barnes, Jarvis & Jason Green, etc.
Coach Dinardo walked in after lunch and kinda just milled around. Folks would go up and talk to him and he would talk to anybody and everybody. Very casual. I haven't been back to one since. He and I were the only ones to donate blood that day (according to the nurse taking blood). I remember getting a letter from them a couple of weeks later telling me they couldn't use my blood because of a high level of creatinine. I had been using a creatine supplement while working out. Haha!
So much different today with corporate sponsorships, $100 admission fees, round-the-clock internet coverage, national announcements, etc.
Those are some very fond memories.

Indeed, and it's probably for the best...

I went to the first one. I was a student at the time and I went in and out throughout the day in between classes. It was at the the fieldhouse. very informal. I remember that Dinardo was talking to the crowd but received a phone call during his speech and had to take it. i think it ended up being travis minor telling him he was going to florida state.
