Qucik Question regarding Club Nintendo downloads

If I download a game from Club Nintendo that says it is for the Wii console, will that be playable on the Wii U?
I'm trying to use my Club Nintendo points before they end the program and want to download Star Fox 64, but it says it is for the Wii console. Can I download that and play it on my Wii U?

I think the Wii U has full Wii functionality under the Wii menu. So, I think the answer is "yes".

Yes, but you have to go through the Wii shop to get it and you have to play it on the Wii (within the Wii U). So no gamepad or pro controller, you need the classic controller for the original Wii

It's a mess right now. N64 games are available on the Wii eshop but not the Wii U. How dumb is that?
