Usually to even get to that point you need to play travel/select and get invited to ODP try outs.

Yeah, 10-15 years ago.

We need those set up all over

but still to be scouted to get into any youth set up kids need to be playing travel/select ball.

The gap of play going from that kid putting 3 or 4 in the net a game to that over night might be a bit much.

All I was trying to say was between:

USSF National Training Centers
US Development Academy / ECNL
PDPs / ld2
Super-Y National ODP

... All of which were developed over the last 10-15 years, there is way more exposure than the old school State-Regional-National ODP system.

it was a lot worse than the OP said.

he said, they do not take their craft seriously, as do NBA and NFL players in the off season (examples he gave), or as do europeans.

he said it after Chile beat USA in friendly, making it clear the team was not in shape to deal with a world class opponent.

He went on to say US' MLS should play 11 months a year, BECAUSE THE TEAM CANNOT BE DEPENDED ON TO WORK OUT ON THEIR OWN.

He must have been disgusted.

I thought about it a lot, the past day or so.
I do not think MLS should play 11 months. the weather is terrible in many MLS cities in the winter.
He just does not know whether to **** or go blind.

we are nowhere close on a technical and soccer instincts level.

yep; so we better be in top shape.

I did not see this particular game, but I have seen Chile play before and their defense is a work of art.

I believe skill and technique are part of athleticism.

They are not.

Athleticism is strength, speed, and the ability to control them. Technique and skill are different altogether. You can take an athlete that dominates at football, basketball, and track, throw them on the pitch and they'll get raped. One of those is on my kid's team. He's a 10 year old Yedlin(resemblance is uncanny) that burns anybody that even tries to run with him. He can't control the ball worth shite though. He'll get there, though. Athleticism is mostly natural, but can be improved. Skill is 100% repetition and practice.

Things like first touch and pure passing ability you are basically born with. If you dont have those will that stop you from being a good player? of course not but you won't be elite.

We need to keep scouting and developing youngsters who have this natural ability.
