Any chance this is a backchannel situation with Moore, Drew, and Loomis? Dumb, I know, but Lance was a favorite of Brees and he pushed hard to get him resigned one offseason.

Brees called him a player-coach for young guys. I think we should bring him in if he's cheap. It doesn't really cost much with only the top contracts counting towards the cap.
Brees talks about Moore before Steelers game
From all reports, we missed that this year in the locker room.
There really isn't any risk here at all.
Brees talks about Moore before Steelers game
quote:
“First of all, Lance (Moore) was an undrafted free agent who I understand (the team) took off of Cleveland’s practice squad back in 2005. I think the journey that he traveled in order to get here and then kind of work his way into the starting lineup I think is inspirational for any young player especially a young receiver who comes into a system and it’s kind of where is my role, where can I contribute and Lance I think is the epitome of a true professional, a guy who came in, started off on practice squad and then worked his way into becoming one of our best receivers. A guy who, as far as football smarts off the charts, can do anything you ask him to do. The rare thing about Lance is you never needed to describe to him how you wanted the route run, he just knew how to run it. Some guys you say okay, we are going to run this type of route and we are looking for you to seem it two steps then push vertical and when you get to this depth you are going to make this break or do that or whatever. You’d just tell Lance the route and what we are trying to attack and he would say okay, I know how that route needs to be run. He would go out there and he would run it and you’d be like, yes, that is perfect. So it was just a lot of unspoken things with Lance. He was extremely smart, extremely intelligent, great football IQ and just so smooth, just knew how it was supposed to look, knew how it was supposed to feel. Man, he did it for a long time for us and I hated to see him go. He was such an integral part of that receiver core and also just the room itself, a guy who I always saw working with young guys just to help them on little things. That was always Lance. He was really a player coach as much as he was a player.”

Ok, if Brees likes him, let him come back at vet minimum.

I think it's important to have a vet on the roster when developing young players. Meach isn't it. Colston and Graham have a different skill set. Moore makes sense in that area, IF you're going to have that player on the roster.
I don't like Meach all that much.

Replace meachem with lance

I'd take Lance over Meachem any day of the week. He's good against zone defense and usually has good hands. Meachem isn't good against any defense and has horrible hands...blocking can only go so far.

Anything that gets Meachem off the team.

Why does he want to be released?
I don't want Moore back...but what is his logic behind asking for his release? Is it personal reasons? Does he have some kind of problem with the organization? It's not because he's expecting a larger contract.

Drew made him who he was. He's skilled, but he's not going to have the success he had somewhere else. Not to say drew is the epitome, but when you don't have a rapport established with your QB and your a marginal receiver with some playmaking abilities, you're not going to do as well.
Maybe he's hopeful to jump back on and finish his career on the upswing.

People have rolled their eyes when I've mentioned this, but I think we need his energy back.

He needs to at least come back and teach Stills and Cooks how to dance...

we got stuck in weird airport mixup (flew from Miami to tampa to Miami to new Orleans) with his brother who was an incredibly nice guy. Everyone was screaming at the airline employees except us.

Did you see his thighs because he didn't have any shorts on?

He had shorts.......just short shorts.
Some saints players did a charity basketball game in Berwick years ago. He was there, along with Lonzell Hill, Buford Jordan, and some others. But Hilliards thighs.........friggin tree trunks.
