Thoughts on Cold Mountain spoilers

I watched it again since I originally saw it years ago. I thought it was very enjoyable but it has its problems that kept it from being so much better.
I thought the pacing was off. I know it got nominated for an Oscar for editing but I don't get that. Several scenes seemed out of place. It cut several times away from the action for 20 seconds or so to show what the other was doing before it cut back and I thought that was awkward.
I thought the ending had issues. Didn't like the Inman take out: I felt like that was cheap. I also felt like Nicole Kidmans character wasn't developed enough into who she is at the end. Yeah i get it. She learned to work hard and she saw some shite. But not enough for her to be the shotgun totting chick who almos shot Inman at the end. There was other stuff too but I can't remember.
And yes, this seriously bothered me. The guns were to fricking accurate. I remember one missed shot the entire movie. In the civil war, the casualty rate was 1 casualty per 250 shots. These people were fricking Walking Dead level accuracy.

The movie was at best fair, the story was junk; as any southern would have walked home to take care of men like that in the county (and the commanders would have let them).
It was very common to desert one unit to go home and plant the crops and join another unit.
The Guns of the time of the Civil war are like today only as good as the person firing it. Movies always get a pass on the actors hitting anything that walks or moves (as it is a movie) and have the million shot gun.
The movie does flow well and I personally didn't see a scene out of place while watching it.
The pace was slow at times and the bridge scenes not as well thought out as needed, but they did tell another story in film.

Really? Let's see her and Ruby find Sally's husband and sons murdered by those POS cops. And whatever they did to Sally herself.
Then the dudes murdered the fat guy and tried to kill Ruby's father. She had no choice but to arm herself.
