Seriously get a Boston. You are from the area and they are a lot like pugs only cooler and more athletic, plus you are a dude and Bostons are more for dudes than pugs. My last boy Boston was named Brady after Tom Terrific, I'll even let you use the name.

Agreed

I've got a Boston. Coolest dude ever!

So there are dogs at the shelter.... do you just kill all the puppies the breeders have? I don't understand the logic here. The breeders are not going to stop. The dogs were already born. So what difference does it make to get the dog at the shelter. Less chance of getting cujo.

If people don't buy dogs, breeders won't continue to sell puppies.

A lot of rescue groups allow for home tests, etc.

All dogs including pure-bred puppies need training. If you don't have the time for training then don't bother getting a dog.

So instead of getting a shelter dog that needs a home, you're gonna overpay some redneck for a dog that is likely an inbred. Good call retard.
Go cry about it some more

Honestly, I don't even get upset about comments like that anymore. It's amazing how much vitriol get's thrown my way over this, even by my friends, much less strangers on the internet.

I just know I'm going to be one of the best damn dog owners on the planet, and this is my first one that I'm truly picking out and truly responsible for, both financially, morally, ethically, and emotionally. I'm just glad I got some fantastic advice, especially on the second page. I'm also going to do some research on Boston Terriers, now that it has been suggested to me.

You're using a video from College Humor to prove a point?

Sometimes humor helps with knowledge transfer. Can you argue any of the points?

Responsible breeders test the parents, grandparents, etc. for genetic diseases and don't breed for only looks. That's a complete fabrication.

Responsible breeders breed from a multitude of reasons but most importantly is long-term health followed closely by temperament and compliance.

Pros on Bostons:
-No body odor (except gas, and they are gassy)
-In 3 years mine has NEVER barked indoors. He will bark when playing at dog park but that's it.
-Goofy, playful personality
-as another poster said-strong and athletic
-really smart. Can teach them all sorts of things
-no grooming needed
