Yeah, my last house was 2800 sq. ft. for 4, and we used half of it. The bottom became storage.

325k - 335k depending on how finished we want the basement. I just want a half bath and an L shaped bar.

Now if I don't get my wife under control she is going to make this damn thing cost about 400k. She sent me a list of things she "wants".

Pretty much the same thing.

we just told the architect what rooms we needed and how we would use them, never asked for any particular size or footage

family of four now has 6000 sqft, and it feels perfect for us and our occasional guests, doesnt feel big at all

I know they are cool, I have been in dozens, but who the frick calls it a tipi? I grew up next to a reservation and had to learn everything about Indians going to school here and I have never heard it spelled tipi until now, its always been teepee. Weird.

Not so subtle bragging here.

I've been crammed in a 2 bedroom townhouse for 5 years saving for this house. I'm going to brag a shite ton

We have stuff packed in every nook and cranny of that damn house. Then we had a kid, we were out of room about a year ago.

It's like that everywhere. It freaks me out to drive through neighborhoods where all the houses look the same, especially if they're on small acreage. 4k sq ft on .75 acres. Why?

FIFY.

Everyone hates cookie cutter neighborhoods, yet that's all that's being built

In new construction, character is expensive.

Why? Because developers want to max out profit

That so tough to understand?

My sister's family of 3 lives in a 5 bed/6.5 bath house with a fully finished basement and attic. I think it's abut 4-5k sq ft.

At one point in October we had about 13 family members staying there so it worked out great.

i grew up the youngest of 6 and my parents had to convert the dining room into the bedroom and close in the carport to make it a living room. (we had the poors)

i shared a room with my brother, and my 4 sisters each had a pair in the other two bed rooms.

i see nothing wrong with siblings sharing rooms if they are of the same sex.

I'd say 600-700sq ft per person is a solid guide to comfortable living for a family that can afford it.

I understand it from a developer's perspective, I just don't understand it from a buyer's perspective.

I'm fricking weird, though. If I was locked to a woman and some chirren I'd probably change my tune.
