Going to try and smoke a deer roast tomorrow. I know deer is low in fat content, and i'd rather avoid wrapping it in bacon. As long as my water bowl is full in the smoker, do i need to do anything else to keep it from drying out?

I don't see that turning out well at all... Way too lean of a meat. But I may be wrong.. It happens occasionally.

Don't do it. Tried smoking a hindquarter one time and ruined it, even low and slow, bottom rack, and chicken's dripping from above. Put that thing in a crockpot with some beef broth and covered in onions and leave it all day while you're smoking a pork butt on your smoker.

I kind of figured it would be hard to do. I also have a pork tenderloin i was going to smoke on top, to let that drip down. I may take your suggestion, though and just to a boston butt.
