Any great local not tourist attractions places to eat in progreso or Cozumel?

I am not sure what the options are in Cozumel, but Playa is only a ferry ride away. Playa has a ton of good places...

In Cozumel, we like Pancho's Backyard. It may not meet your definition of non-touristy, but the Mexican food is pretty good and the atmosphere is nice. You can sit on the shaded patio, have a margarita and listen to the Mariachi band while you have lunch. It was a fun way to spend a couple of hours. As you stand on the ship looking at shore, it is on the left end of the main street.

For Cozumel I usually hit Wet Wendy's for lunch and drinks. Ceviche and Blackened Chicken Mango Chipotle Nachos. Margaritas are F'n huge. Prices are good and it's just off the town square. There's also Havana Bob's cigar shop in the courtyard. Real Cubans if you're into that.

Progresso has a shopping area in the center of town that has some interesting food "booths". Local stuff smells great. Just don't wander over to the area where they sell meat. You will not want to eat after seeing all that

I forget the name of it but the place with huge Mexican flag had some great grub.

progreso sucks. I wouldn't even get off of the boat unless you just want to go right there at the dock and enjoy some margaritas.

I did an excursion to a resort from Progreso and it was pretty cool. Progreso itself sucks but you can get out of town and have a good time.

So Progreso is poor town. It's also one of the best places to dock to see the ruins. Autoprogreso runs the tours for the ship. You can also book direct with them for much less for the same tour. We went to Dzibilchaltun (DZ)and had time for a late lunch and beers. Lunch was a whole deep fried fish. While you're eating locals will hit you up to buy DVD's and other crap.
