This is a 6 part series on these guys. They are badasses. They guard the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier also.

One of my best friends was at the Tomb for two years. It is an incredible deal and he is definitely a badass.

Eta: He is in the part 5 of 6 around the 2:00 mark. The whole part 5 of 6 is centered around him. That is awesome!

Mat Brisiel

Awesome article on him and his brother who was also in the Old Guard. Grew up with them in Houston. Jon served at least twice in Iraq and Mat did one tour in Afgan. Amazing guys and honor to say, they are like brothers to me.

A few more pictures of them.

Those guys take dedication to duty to a whole other level. I've got nothing but mad respect for them.

Arlington and the tomb of the unknowns is a must for any American. The pride, thankfulness, joy, sadness, respect, and honor are all felt at the same moment.

I do get royally pissed at some of the mouth breathers talking and laughing there, thankfully the guard puts them in their place quick.

The guards handle up on them immediately. It's impressive.

I was there Memorial Day weekend a few years ago with my BIL and his sons. It was very hot and humid, like August in N.O. miserable. The boys were about 5, 8 and 10. We gave them a lecture beforehand about being respectful and silent during the changing of the guard, emphasizing that if they couldn't stand still and shut the frick up for 9 minutes, we weren't going. The only time one of them moved, was when someone nearby dropped an empty water bottle. Even if they didn't completely understand the significance of what they'd witnessed, they knew they'd seen something special.

It's an impressive sight to see. The precision and attention to detail is almost unbelievable. As great as the videos are, seeing it in person is a whole different experience.

There are signs all around as you approach the plaza telling you to be silent and respectful. The Sergeant of the Guard instructs the crowd before each change. I think most people get it, but there are the occasional idiots.
