Tomorrow is the day this game is available for download on the Wii U. I did not play the trilogy on the original Wii, so I'm not sure of the set up. Will I need to get the Pro Controller to play this game, or does it use the nun-chuck?

I can't wait for this.

Can it be played on the game pad?

I don't mind the Wii-motes... I think they worked fine for Skyward Sword. But playing on the pad would be a step up.

Ninty has been kind of lazy w/these and is just giving straight up ports.

Honestly, I thought the motion controls for MP worked great. They were a hell of a lot more intuitive than the original GCN controls IMO.

You just have to remember that you dont have to make dramatic motions the vast majority of the time in Wii FPS games. You can get away with resting your arm on your leg or a pillow and just making small movements w/your wrist 99% of the time so long as you turn the sensitivity up.

Something like this on your leg or a small pillow works really well

and no, thats not me in a snuggie like shirt

So the original Metroid Prime for the Wii used nunchucks too?

You mean on the Trilogy set? Yes, they were updated to use the Wiimote/Nunchuck setup.

They were Gamecube games originally though and those two had a funky control scheme. It worked but it was less than ideal b/c it was just different enough from other FPS games that it made it a chore to jump back into if you didn't play for a while.

Yeah, that's what I was asking. I'd only played MP and MP2 on the GameCube, though I never finished MP2. I never played the trilogy on the Wii.

So playing it on the Wii was a pain? If so, hope they fix it for the Wii U.

No, sorry that I wasnt clear.

I thought playing on Gamecube was a pain b/c the controls were different enough from other FPS games of the era.

I think it controlled fine on the GC. The only slightly troublesome mechanic was aiming at specific areas (holding down one of the bumpers), but lock-on pretty much made it a non issue.

I guess with everything, you just have to get used to it. Unless it's just really really bad.

oh no, I think it worked fine once I got used to it.

again, it was more of a "WTF cant this shite control like every other FPS game?" feeling I would get if I put it down for a while and tried to jump right back in weeks later.

then again, I kind of wish Geist had gone with the MP controls b/c it would have been a hell of a lot better than the stiff wooden aiming that game had w/traditional FPS controls.

So I guess maybe I'm just a whiner when it comes to that damn little yellow C stick.

I guess I was just so caught up in the novelty of a first person Metroid, I got over it's idiosyncrasies pretty quickly.

ETA Wasn't the yellow stick only used for visor change? Or cannon?
