The Dell I've been using has died out on me after 8 years, any recommendations on some? I don't need it to do anything besides run business software, and have basic internet capabilities. Is it better to build my own computer? Go with brand name? I was thinking Lenovo's M-series?

If your needs are that basic I'd look at recent refurbs. The refurb desktops I've had (HP and Dells) have performed as well as the new ones. Spend the money you save on something useful to you like more RAM or a better monitor.

Pretty much nowadays, get the cheapest generally accepted brand with the most ram you can afford.

Second point would be some type of SSD if you want to spend the money for it.

ETA: I'd be all over refurbs too. Good point.
