What do you think happens to the remnant after it's been "milked"?

They probably just throw is away right?

huh?

i already explained what i use almond milk for. i put it in coffee to cool it off (instead of dairy milk) and use it as a secondary ingredient

it's a replacement for dairy milk. i don't drink it for fiber and i don't drink it for fat (i get that elsewhere). it's a low-cal sub for dairy milk. so how exactly am i a sucker?

You should be careful. It contains carrageenan which is a known carcinogen

I found malk today at whole foods which doesn't have it

As mentioned, you can use the amount of fiber present in almond milk as an indicator as to how many almonds are actually present per serving.

no, you can't

it's basically water with less than .50 worth of almonds per carton.

but it's a decent milk substitute. i just grab a couple every time they're on sale 2 for 1.

i've switched to just using water to dilute my smoothies because i put a bunch of raw almonds in them anyway.

even if this is true, it tastes like milk and has the advantages people have posted about in this thread (namely lower cals/fat)

I think it has a distinctly different taste from milk. Even the unsweetened variant tastes sweeter than 1% milk, at least to me.

While it may be lower in calories, it doesn't have the overall nutritional profile of cow's milk - namely, micronutrients such as selenium, B vitamins, iodine, biotin, etc. Not to mentioned the protein.

Cause you're paying out the nose for 1/2 an almond "nutritional value" per cup? might as well use water. It's low in fat too.

This is the only reason I use it in cereal sometimes. Thirty calories per cup vs. approximately 120 in dairy milk?

I try to make my Fruity Pebbles as healthy as possible, bruh!

95% (stat I made up based on how many labels I had to read) of the almond milk brands carry a cancer causing carcinogen

Correct. I've seen almond milk brands that specify that they are carrageenan free.

you and i have opposite taste buds, then. but you're free to not drink almond milk

regular milk is sweeter to me and i'd drink it if it had what i wanted. i definitely prefer the taste

again, i get this elsewhere, esp the protein. if your diet is deficient in these, then i can see the argument

i'm not one of those "omg humans shouldn't drink dairy milk" people, but dairy milk is one of the few things that can be affected by hormones and shite. so if your diet is deficient and you have to rely on milk, you have to buy the shite that is as expensive as almond milk

And it has some additional nutritional value, and tastes fricking great in a chocolate almond protein shake.

I was mainly saying that because it can be bought in bulk when on sale 2-1 and sit on the shelf for a long while comparatively.

And for people that use it just in coffee, that would be an important factor that it can last a month opened in the fridge.
