An off-duty officer was traveling across the Crescent City Connection with his patrol unit, which is equipped with a LoJack vehicle tracking system, when he received a stolen vehicle alert, according to Colonel John Fortunato. The off-duty officer made the discovery around 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

The off-duty officer contacted the National Crime Information Center and discovered that the vehicle was registered to Mayor Mitch Landrieu. The vehicle has been described as a black, 4-door, 2009 Jeep.
